We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melody, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Alkababy helps the community by empowering them to make healthy choices to nourish their inner and outer being. We offer products that help boost your immunity, clean your blood, rid your body of mucus, moisturize your skin, relieve muscle aches and so much more naturally. Our labels are simple because we take the health of our community seriously.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally, I’ve toggled around a bit but my passion has always been health and wellness. I began as a bio/pre-med student but then I worked in the ER for about a year and realized that some doctors are amazing at treating a disease but never really get to the root cause of it so they create life long customers. Afterwards, I pursued nursing then Hurricane Katrina happened and flipped my life upside down. I finished college in Dallas, TX then decided to work in IT but my passion for health and wellness continued to tug at my heart strings. So, after toggling with the idea of becoming an entrepreneur for 2 year, making elixirs and butters for my family and homemade baby formula for my children I decided to dive-in, in 2019 officially and I am absolutely in love with the journey thus far.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love the outdoors so I would take friends to Klyde Warren Park to lay in the grass, absorb some vitamin D courtesy of Mother Nature enjoy the food trucks and hopefully they have some live music that day. The Dallas Arboretum, Oak Cliff’s off-road bike trail, Pangea’s Restaurant and Grill, Kenny’s Wood Fire Grill (Kenny’s has been my favorite since moving to Dallas), walk Legacy West and/or go to Legacy West Food Hall. I’m really a home body so that’s typically the extent of my DFW list of “fun things to do”. I love cooking and juicing so that would be their 1st experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my children (Cree & Kayin). They are the reason Alkababy exists. When I became a mother the goal for my family was to provide them with all the tools they need to thrive and in my opinion that begins with what you put in and on your temple/body.
