We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, how does your business help the community or world?
We use our valuable platform of being dressed as beloved characters to teach kids that being a beautiful princess or a handsome prince is more than the fancy clothes, fine jewelry, and perfect hair; being truly beautiful is about the way we treat others. Kindness, goodness, patience, joy, peace and other qualities are the examples we use when giving our unique “Inner Beauty Lesson” at every party or event. We hope these truths are helping the next generation to get past the shallow messages the media surrounds us with today, and are shaping these young hearts to truly love people and see past the exterior.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Part of what I love about owning this business so much is being able to create an environment of encouragement and acceptance for our performer team. It’s been amazing to watch the talented performers who have joined our cast blossom into such great princess performers and party hostesses. Many of them have even developed lifetime friendships from working together. Their experience also gives them some valuable bullet points for their resumes and college applications.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the things we enjoy as a family that is unique to our area would be attending a play at the Artisan Theater in Hurst, where many of our performers have acted over the years. We also love Tex-Mex food, On the Border, Chipotle, Rosas Cafe, and Abuelos being our favorite spots for that. In the summer, we love swimming, so you might find us at Hurricane Harbor or NRH2O.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents unconditional love and support through all of my endeavors as a child and young adult gave me the confidence I needed to try my hand at starting my business 6.5 years ago. My husband, Ken, and our kids, Madeline and Kaeden, have celebrated my successes with me and lifted me up when I was faced with challenges. They also were so patient with me while I was trying to balance the business with being a wife and a homeschooling mom. My church, neighbors, and homeschool community have also been so encouraging and excited with me as I’ve walked through this journey. But ultlimately, as cliche as it sounds, God has blessed my company far beyond what I ever could’ve imagined. Without His protection and provision, I know it would not be as successful as it is and I wouldn’t have the joy that I have in doing it.
