Meet Melissa Mayo Campbell | Founder, Evergreen Birth & Wellness

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Mayo Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I firmly believe that with each peaceful and positive birth that occurs, the world gets a little brighter. The woman is proud of herself and more connected to her baby and her innate abilities to bring forth and nourish life, and the baby received a beautifully peaceful transition into this world.
A positive birth experience has the potential to allow a woman to go into her postpartum feeling empowered and supported by her community, which could affect her bond with her baby in such a positive way.
When I’m able to educate someone throughout their pregnancy, hold space for them throughout their birth, and support them in many different ways postpartum, I’m helping establish their foundation and frame-work for postpartum and parenting.
In my heart, this is the most important work that you can do.

What should our readers know about your business?
I wear lots of hats in the birth world, so I’ve just started calling myself a birth worker. I’m a doula, childbirth educator, placenta encapsulation specialist, belly binder, pre/postnatal yoga instructor, and fellow mama. I walk with women throughout their pregnancy, labor + birth, and postpartum.
I love that I’m able to offer lots of different resources and support, but I’m most proud of my sliding scale pricing structure.
I’m such a firm believer in sliding scales, and offering them in my practice for over a year now has only further showed how effective they can be. Each of my offerings and packages are priced out on a scale, so I’ll have my clients pay an amount within the scale that respects the value of my offerings, but also is feasible for them and their family. I feel very strongly that if someone is wanting the type of support that I can give, finances shouldn’t be a concern. I’ve also done some bartering with clients, and I just love it. I’ve done belly binds for a photoshoot, I’ve done private yoga lessons for landscaping consultations and pottery lessons. To me, this fosters community and creates such strong bonds with my clients… It’s been really meaningful to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in old East Dallas and I’m just loving seeing how the area thrives and is just a little different from the rest of the city. This past weekend we walked to the neighborhood farmers market, and then passed a parade on the way home! If we’re wanting to venture to other spots, Bishops Arts is our place. We love Wild Detectives and our precious wedding venue, House of Dirt, is always fun to see too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve pulled a lot of my training and research from vastly different organizations, people, and resources, but what they all have in common is they’re badass women. Birth work is not easy work, and I’m so grateful for the women who have came before me and paved the way so that I’m able to support folks in their ideal birth experience.
I’d also like to acknowledge the amazing support of my husband, Ian. This dude ceaselessly sees the best in me, and is so good at encouraging me to reach more and dream more. I don’t think I ever would have taken all of the massive leaps of faith that I took if it hadn’t been for him and his encouragement and support.
