We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Thorne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are more than one important factor behind my businesses success. One is having open and honest communication with clients. While the other is my skill set in all marketing aspects.
I keep open communication with clients frequently. This helps express ideas, issues, and thoughts that we have run in to or might run in too in the future. Clients learn to feel comfortable in expressing their concerns and in a steady, honest, and transparent manner. Taking on a client means you both become part of a team during projects. Your team should be a well oiled machine and communicating helps you both avoid surprises, resolve conflicts, and collaborate better which results in a more successful project. You’d be surprised at how many times clients and I have conversations where they have been disappointed by other marketing firms because of the lack in communication.
Skill sets are extremely important and have made my brand very successful. When I first knew I wanted to get into marketing I had discussions with many long time business owners. I wanted to know and understand what frustrations they had with the marketing companies over the years. One of the main reasons business owners have struggled with their marketing was because the firms did not understand their business and they had to outsource to several different companies who were not collaborating with each other. When I started Mega Equine Marketing I wanted to make sure the company knew every aspect of marketing. After 10+ years of college, running an online retail store for 12+ years, working in corporate marketing, being an assistant horse trainer, starting colts, and learning all that I can about an industry I am passionate about gave me the skills set to have a successful and accomplished brand.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing up in the equine world, I have worked with horses my whole life. While growing up in the horse industry, I developed many skill sets while working with trainers in different Western disciplines, training horses, working in small businesses, corporate marketing, and reading copious amounts of marketing books. My dedication to learning all marketing aspects and over 12 years of marketing experience have helped me develop extensive knowledge to help the equine world with business marketing goals.
I started Mega Equine Marketing to establish a one-stop shop for everything marketing to help people tell their stories to the world. From video production and generating content to developing customized logos, graphics, websites, marketing plans, and strategies, we have taken countless businesses to the next level of success.
Opening a business like this was challenging and took many years of dedicated learning and hands-on experience. I learned the rule of pivoting very early to make a business more successful. Sometimes companies need to pivot, find an alternative route, and another plan to execute. Achieving this might be challenging, but when a marketing company like mine does the research, looks at all the different avenues, and helps develop a successful plan, it can go a long way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Worth is one of my favorite places when I travel for work. Number one of my list is always the Stockyards. You can hang out all day long and the shopping and restaurants are spectacular. In the Stockyards you’ll find my favorite stores, Kimes Ranch, Western Legacy, and Old Gringo and my favorite hotel, Hotel Drover.
Fort Worth also has amazing sit down restaurants I love are 97 West Kitchen & Bar, Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, and Piola Italian Restaurant & Garden. For quick bites I love Velvet Taco, Taco Heads, and the Flying Fish.
For entertainment I highly recommend Billy Bobs Texas or catching a concert at Dixies.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My efforts and success would have faded without my husband, mother, and other business owners’ encouragement. Their continued support aided in my dedication to opening Mega Equine Marketing, being comfortable altering the business plan when needed, and becoming confident in speaking about how to improve other businesses for their success.
