We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work/life balance changed significantly when I started my own interior design business. My family is the most important thing in my life and I’ve been able to spend so much extra time with my son the last 2 and a half years. From traveling, to random days at the water park during the summer to being able to pick him up at 3 when school gets out every day, It’s so nice to have the flexibility to manage my work schedule with my family’s schedule instead of having to conform to the parameters of an 8-5 job. I feel that I’m very lucky to have this flexibility and I value all the extra time I have for myself and my family!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have owned my own interior design business since January 2018, I help my clients with everything from furnishings, window treatments, upholstery, art and accessories to a bathroom refresh or full gut remodels. I have a great design process that goes step by step to break the process down into simpler, more manageable phases verses throwing 100 decisions at my client. I help guide my clients to their decisions and we develop the final outcome together. I got to where I am today with a lot of will power, strength and patience. I had to work through a lot of not great jobs where I was significantly under paid, looked down upon just because I was young or a girl in the construction industry and I’ve had bosses and managers who didn’t like it when I spoke my mind, There was really nothing easy about getting to this point except for making the decision to work for myself! I over came the challenges I faced by keeping my head on straight and not getting bogged down by the negative people. Knowing that regardless of where I was working or who I was working for, I was gaining valuable experience that I would later fall back on to build my knowledge and credibility with my clients. One thing I want the world to know about my story is to never give up, push towards your goals and always stay positive!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Some of our favorite places to eat are Kenny’s Burgers and Kenny’s Pizza, Mexican Bar Company and Whistle Britches!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well first I would like to thank my mom! With out her support, research, financial advice and willingness to put up with me, my interior design business would not be where it’s at today! She is a retired CPA so she does all my accounting which is the biggest help and time saver for me! I’d also like to thank my husband for always being supportive of my business decisions and goals. He’s also in construction so I pick his brain when I need advice, I love collaborating with him!
