We had the good fortune of connecting with Mayy Kalbouneh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mayy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
That saying, “Life is all about taking risks,” motivates me. Without putting in significant effort and taking risks, one cannot easily achieve a job or life objective. I study at a university full-time and put a lot of effort into achieving my dream of becoming a doctor while also showing the world the outcomes captured by my camera. I distinctly recall being unsure of how people would respond to the images when I first started publishing them a few years back. I had the courage to present the world from my perspective when I took the chance to join the yearbook staff during my sophomore year of high school. That was the beginning of my photography career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been developing myself as a photographer since I was 15 years old, I am most proud of how much I have grown and progressed as a person. No matter what obstacles they face, I think that if someone is committed to doing anything and makes the necessary effort, they can succeed. Although there are no easy paths to achievement and success, if we maintain an optimistic outlook, we will succeed.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to downtown Fort Worth because there are lots of activities and lovely landscapes there. We can start the day with coffee and breakfast at Pax and Beneficia. After that, we can explore Sundance Square and stop at the courtyard, which has plenty of greenery and a lively scene at night. I would also go to the Fort Worth Stockyards and see a performance there. At the Istanbul Grill or the Cheesecake Factory, we can also eat lunch or dinner. We can also check out the Forth Worth museums or attend a performance or game at Dickies Arena.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and parents were my biggest supports and encouragers to establish my own photography business, become a photographer, and show everyone my photos. I would like to dedicate this shoutout to them. Not to mention Cindy Miller, my high school yearbook instructor, who offered me the chance to work on three yearbooks, design one, and participate in photographic contests. Last but not least, I want to give a special shout-out to Tamara Haddad, a teacher at my high school who has motivated me to achieve my goals and be a successful teen ever since we first met.
