We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working as a server at Mellow Mushroom when they started to have pop up markets. I thought it was really cool to see all these people follow their dreams and pursue their own business. It wasn’t until my coworkers at Spirit Halloween ask me to make a baby Baphomet for them that i really played on the idea. of course with the on going courage of Jerehmai Washington and a few others. I’d have to say the hardest part of the process was coming up with an unique business name. if I hadn’t put much thought into it I would have ended up as Crooked Hookers instead of Sunnichi’s Crochary.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is still getting started from when I officially decided to start it. I haven’t quite reach the point of finding out what sets me apart from others just yet. My goal for starting this business is providing individuals a sense of joy or excitement when holding or having something i created. So far in my journey I’m excited when a formal invitation is extend to me by a market personally. I feel like its a step toward my business being recognize also expanding . I have to say that my biggest challenge at the moment is pricing, but after many lectures I think I’m slowly but surely getting the hang of it. I’d like the world to know that about my brand is that it’s for everyone no matter where they are.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending on the week, I’d take them along to my markets to me all my lovely friends there. I’d have take them to mellow Mushroom to eat and JK’s cocktails for a good time and great drinks. I haven’t been yet but I’d also take them to Free Play to experience it together. As usual we’ll catch a movie and eat at Ihop as it’s always my favorite place to eat(Their french toast is my favorite). On Sunday I’ll take them to the only place in Dallas I frequent The Church to meet more of my friends. Aside from partying and hanging out I’d also take them to explore all the museums Dallas has to offers as well as the Zoo.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Market family! From Every Witch Way Denton,The Mosaic Market and all the beautiful people I’ve met there. I would also like to shout out my friends and family who keep me motivated on following my dreams.
