We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Nestor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Expanding outside of your comfort zone. Playing music in some places that are off the beaten path. Also, to constantly be searching for new avenues to promote your music. You never know what podcast, radio station, or influencer will enjoy your tunes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love performing my eclectic style to all different audiences. I have been lucky enough to play so many different gigs from national anthems at sporting events, to festivals, breweries, corporate events, and many dive bars. All of these experiences have honed my craft into a unique performance for every show. I mix my songs with the vibe of that particular venue and or crowd. I never write a set list, because I believe every show is different according to what is happening in that particular moment. Every artist knows the road to your career is never easy, but if you are persistent, and capitalize on opportunities you are given, good things can happen! Many times you will be rejected in the professional music world, but with every experience you learn a lesson from that, and grow as an artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to choose three unique venues to take someone in my neck of the woods, it would be a brewery, 24 hour diner and a great outdoor park. First, one of the more unique breweries I have played/been to, would be Pegasus City Brewery in downtown Dallas. They have an excellent selection of drinks, have kept the great 20’s Art/deco vibe inside the building, plus have an amazing patio overlooking surrounding skyscrapers. Next, a food staple to the Dallas area is Buzzbrews 24 hour kitchen. There eclectic menu puts a Southern/ Texas spin on sandwiches, breakfast, and grilled dishes and has several locations within the city. Finally, a hidden gem on the border of Dallas and technically in the suburb Cedar Hill, is Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center. This amazing outdoor park is hilly, wooded, has excellent trails, unique viewing areas for bird wildlife, and has great views of Joe Pool lake. Plus, it is FREE!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family has always been supportive of me pursuing my music! As well as all of the other musicians in my life that I have been fortunate enough to play with! They always encouraged me to stick with my songs, keep writing, and to continuing playing my music in a solo career.
