We had the good fortune of connecting with Mason Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mason, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think staying true to myself has been the biggest catalyst for success for myself and Bard Photography. I spent a lot of years trying to take and edit photos in the style that I felt like my clients at the time wanted. I have learned over the years that it is not an effective or efficient way for me to do photography and it also takes some of the personal art out of it for me. So I decided to be true to myself and take and edit photos that I liked and I have had the honor to have clients that love my style and want me to take pictures for that reason. It has been huge for me!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as the typical iPhone photographer/VSCO photographer. I loved the process of editing photos and seeing the before and after from my phone. But I had no idea what I was doing. I ended up taking some photos here and there at a job almost a decade ago and the love for photography started. I have gone through several cameras and even changed the entire system brand that I use until I have landed where I am at today. The journey has been full of ups and downs. There have been times where I take a photo every single day and there have been moments where my camera has stayed in the bag for months, but the photographer that I am today is a testament to sticking with it and not giving up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Breakfast spots to hit up would be Snooze, Burleson Brunch House, Old South Pancake House, and Fuzzy’s.

Lunch and dinner spots that are our favorite are Torchy’s Tacos, Charleston’s, Mexican Inn, Fresco’s, and Pandan.

Downtown Fort Worth is one of our favorite spots to go and hang out, walk around and take some pictures. Especially around Christmas time. Sundance Square has a massive Christmas tree and fountains and is beautiful this time of year.

White Rock Lake is one of the most beautiful spots in the DFW Metro area to relax and take photos. Best place to watch a sunset with the lake and the Dallas skyline in the background.

We are also big Putt Putt golf people in my house. So we would probably hit up a couple of putt putt spots in the area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like this might be cliche in this day and age but the first shoutout goes to my friend Dane Soderquist. We used to work together in the creative department of a church out in West Texas and he introduced me to what would become one of my biggest inspirations and obsessions, Peter McKinnon’s YouTube channel. Most of everything I have been able to learn about how to use a camera, edit photos, direct people in a shoot, etc, has come from how Pete does it. I am forever grateful to Dane and to Pete for inspiring me to pick up a camera and go out and shoot.
