We had the good fortune of connecting with Marvin Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marvin, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Taking a three month pay cut and investing in a team to help us reach our company goals. We wanted to lead by example and pay creatives versus having them do work for us probono. It was very hard but rewarding to pay our friends and grow the way we wanted to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I fear I still haven’t embraced my “art” or creative outlet. With a background in mental health (undergrad in psychology, masters in social work) i’ve focused my career on giving to others and growing communities. Transitioning over to the creative media space four years ago has been difficult in many ways. What is my identity? What is my canvas? Who am I? Why did I go to school only to pursue something I haven’t “fully committed to?” These are all questions that are constantly orbiting my mind at all times. I no longer have a “9-5,” no longer have higher ups to answer to, no longer have health insurance (lol), no longer have to look forward to the weekend. When I transitioned from the mental health space over to the creative space, it didn’t feel like it would be a full time thing. I had recently arrived to Texas and did not want to get licensed since I already had a masters (c’mon Texas) but every state is different so I took a remote job that didn’t last long and my cousin in law brought me on board to be the audio guy for a shoot. It was as simple as “want to shoot Shaquille O’Neal shooting guns? We need an audio guy.” As a lifelong Laker fan, this was a no brainer. After a year of being the audio guy, producer’s assistant and errand boy, we discovered I’m pretty good a communicating and moving people in one direction. In 2023, after a failed merger, which almost destroyed us, we started Outerfields with the hopes of being the change we wanted to see in the production world. There are a lot of sketchy, lying, self absorbed, tardy, grimey, disrespectful people in this world, we wanted to be a breath of fresh air for clients but also for creatives. We realized creatives have a hard time advocating for themselves, pricing themselves fairly, communicating with clients, positioning themselves to win. When I get questions like “what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about?” I think of our journey so far. I think of how hard it’s been but thats part of the journey and the best part has been that we are doing it our way. We are being respectful, paying our creatives, communicating with clients, being authentic to who we are and creating how we want.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You came to the right person. As a certified big back, I love food, coffee and a sweet treat. When they land i’d take them to LDU or Slow and Steady for their first cup of coffee. Then we’re hitting shugs for a heavy breakfast before playing pickleball at Cole Park. After burning off those perfect bagels we’re driving to Cris and John’s for the best meal of YOUR LIFE (guaranteed or i’ll buy you a coffee). After a heavy meal we’re stopping by for a pour over at Church Coffee and walking around and taking in the beauty of this incredible building. We’re stopping by Cedar Market Ranch for some cheap and fresh produce before ending the night at Chilangos (Ross location) for the best tacos in DFW! (if we have time and space, we’re stopping by Terry Blacks for some BBQ, NEVER PECAN LODGE)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Great question! The Almanack of Naval Ravikant || A guide to wealth and happiness helped us shape the foundation of Outerfields. For those who haven’t read it, i’ll buy you a copy. We believe its our blueprint to creative and financial freedom.
