We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquita Deloach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marquita, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision that I ever had to make was not following my heart and passion to pursue a career in fashion. Instead, I took the safe route of working as an accountant due to the financial security it provides.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a small-town girl from Arkansas with visions of NYC fashion week from the time I was in high school and picked up a fashion magazine.

Earning a degree in journalism I thought I was setting myself up to become the next big fashion editor. In reality, I let fear dictate my path, and instead of taking a bite out of the big apple, I choose a more southern route to Dallas. This led me to go back to school and get a master’s in business allowing me a career and financial security. Regardless of the career path I chose,  I have always continued to be drawn to fashion and women looking and feeling their best.
I have always been the personal stylist for my friends and some family members.

I was always in tune with fashion trends and the major fashion houses, but I always gravitated to the classics over trends. Being fashionable on a budget is a must for me so my goal is to show where to invest your money when purchasing. The accountant in me wants to make sure you get your cost per wear. I am a believer in building a capsule wardrobe and adding inexpensive trendy pieces around the classics you wear year after year.  When you have a day job you just can’t wear something off the runway to the office. I encourage women to be professional but also have fun with their wardrobes.

I am ready to be my most authentic self.

I am happiest when I see women of all shapes and sizes comfortably in their skin. Taking an extra look in the mirror and admiring what they see looking back at them.

It has always been about empowering women to be their true authentic selves. Live in their truth and enjoy each day like it is the last. Fashion is just the art that keeps ongoing.

As a woman in her 40s life is just getting started. We have to invest in ourselves without feeling guilty. We are in our second phase of life and it’s going to be a fun one. The Next Chapter Curated will provide office attire inspiration. Some fun date night looks, mixed with a few lifestyle recommendations from travel, food, and skincare. All from the perspective of a woman over 40.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas has grown so much over the years. It seems like a new restaurant is opening up every weekend. For nightlife, you can never go wrong checking out the restaurants and bars in Uptown or Deep Ellum. For shopping, I will always be a fan of Northpark. I also like the outdoor shopping that Legacy West provides. Lastly, check out some of the many art museums and botanical gardens here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My close group of friends who I have styled and shopped for over the years. They help push me in the direction of creating The Next Chapter Curated. They have always encouraged me to not give up on my fashion aspirations. With the rise of social media as a major marketing tool, I knew what better time for me to start content creation and blogging. Lastly, my husband has always been my biggest supporter. He may not understand everything that I am trying to do, but he is always encouraging in whatever direction I am going in at the time.
