We had the good fortune of connecting with Marjorie Mae Mrozek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marjorie Mae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
During my time in the military it came to my attention how many families were unsupported in their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Many families are young, and do not live by family or friends. If the spouse who is not pregnant is the military member they have a short period of time to spend at home after the delivery of their new child. Leaving the Mom home to care for the newborn and heal. I started Honey Home to support military families, I want to be the person you can trust and count on to care for and nurture you throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period. I originally wanted to be solely for military families and that would have been fine while living in Southern California. When my family was relocated due to my husband’s work, I found myself in a whole new world, not around as many military families.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Honey Home was brought to life after I had my daughter. She is the inspiration behind my brand, my little bee. I want to bring the comforts and calmness from home to wherever the family is. My goal is to make your birthing location whether it is a house, birth center or hospital feel like home. It has been very difficult to establish Honey Home in Texas. We relocated in the beginning of Covid in 2020, everyone was scared and we weren’t sure how long life would be on lock down. Having a young baby myself, I decided it was not the time to actively work my business. September of 2020 I became pregnant with my son and he was born June of 2021, I waited until he was closer to a year to begin to start establishing Honey Home. To be honest, I am just now starting to really get my name out there and support families. I have learned that timing is everything, I am a Wife, Veteran, Military Spouse, and Mother before I am a Business Owner. In order for me to give my clients the support they need I needed to ensure my Home was ready for me to go back to work. Though it seems like a long time, I know it is God’s timing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, this is super difficult for me being that the majority of my time here in DFW area has been spent on lockdown or with tiny babies in tow. When my best friend visited we went to the Stockyards, the zoo, and a few restaurants. I love that Dallas and Fort Worth have super unique places. I have heard there are hidden speakeasys so I would love to find those and enjoy that experience. I am hoping I can get out there more and really experience all that DFW has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shortly after moving to Texas, I found myself to be expecting my second child. I looked all around for a Midwife that I felt comfortable, understood, and cared for. Traci Santangelo, CNM at BirthPointe not only supported me throughout my pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. She has also been someone who has inspired me to follow my dreams to become a Midwife. Traci has become a mentor to me, guiding and educating me as Honey Home develops and evolves. I am currently a Student Midwife and taking postpartum families while enrolled. Traci has always been there to bounce ideas off of and provide me with honest feedback. I am so grateful for her.
