We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Castevet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marie, what are you inspired by?
I draw inspiration from the world around me, particularly in finding beauty in challenging situations and providing support to those in need. As a tarot reader and artist, I particularly appreciate the symbolism of the star card in the tarot deck, as it represents finding strength and resilience in the face of adversity. I deeply admire the determination of a dandelion that thrives amongst the concrete.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During my teenage years, I developed an interest in tarot reading, which I would often pursue in the tranquility of my candlelit room. My parents compared my abilities to those of my grandmother, who had a skill for interpreting tea leaves and exuded an unmistakable sense of confidence. Initially, I began reading for friends and developed an interest in energy work when I attended a festival in Granbury, Texas. It was there that I met Helena from Hemlock Haus, who encouraged and recognized my abilities. Unfortunately, we lost touch for several years until we coincidentally crossed paths again when I started offering professional readings. That particular encounter truly reaffirmed my confidence in my craft.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If it is the first Wednesday of the month, we could attend the film and vendor market event known as Weird Wednesday, which is held at Southside Preservation Hall. This event showcases a unique and eclectic selection of deliciously obscure offerings. Additionally, we would visit Born Late or attending a show at Growl or Haltom Theater. I would be delighted to provide them with a tour of my favorite metaphysical shops in the area, followed by enjoying a meal at Spiral Diner. I’m a bit of a fiend for their nachos. I am just as likely to pull out my tarot deck at The Armoury in Dallas as I am The Fort Worth Water Gardens, I usually always have a travel sized deck in my bag.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As we are currently in the dark half of the year, I would like to express my gratitude towards those individuals who held a special place in my life but are no longer with us. In both my professional and personal endeavors, I make an effort to pay homage and honor their memory. I would like to express my gratitude to Aster Graves of Aster’s Attic for the invaluable sharing and inspiration they have provided to enhance both my artistic skills and craft over the course of the past year.
