We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana Hurtado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariana, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Favorite quote “if your dreams don’t scared you, they aren’t big enough” Every time I think I’m scared when changing something in my business, when letting go of a client and taking a new one that brings more revenue, but at the same time brings more demand, whatever is new and makes me scared to take that first step, I always remember that this started as a dream and big dreams will always scared you one way or another.
I also always remembered “if it scares you it might be a good thing to try”.
I really like remembering those two all the time that changes come, new doors open, for some reason new things will always bring insecurities, because they make us step out of our comfort zone, and having a quote to pump your spirit and get that energy level up it’s always nice, specially when it comes as a reminder of where you were at first and where you are now.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My sweets are simply special because everything that I put into practice comes from the love and passion I’ve seen through the years in my family, my mom put into her sweets, my dad into cooking for us and friends, my grandfather cooking every time family got together. Baking, designing and decorating our sweets it’s not a job to me, it’s my pleasure it’s like my “me time”, and of course it’s done with all the love i witness my parents and my grandparents poured out on me for so many years, food for me is one of the many languages and expressions love has. It hasn’t always been easy, even if I’ve enjoyed it al the way, having to juggled and struggle with kids, school, activities and house responsibilities, the fact that I do everything myself it’s a big deal enough, because unfurtunately I’ve not been able to find someone to help me, someone that will put as much love, responsibility and passion into my business is very hard, so I’m one woman show when it comes to my business in all aspects, and I’m still looking for a good candidate that will come along to share every single victory and every hard day with us.
I want people to know that there is a story behind every sweet bite, there is hard work and effort, that isn’t a franchise ready bite, this a well elaborated and prepared sweet bite, that it is actually homemade and served as comfort food.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’ve moved to Dallas, I’ve found the city to be beautiful and exiting and I’ve had the opportunity to take my youngest sister who visited recently to a place my husband and I love, “Legacy Food Hall” the place it’s amazing, all kinds of food and drinks to choose from in one place, and there’s not a food joint we’ve tried there that I can say it’s bad, they are all good and amazing, also the fact that on a Thursday they have playing bands at night, where you can enjoy food, drinks and music at the same time, for me in particular it’s priceless to be able to have that experience every week and minutes away from home it’s awesome.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first of all is God, he put this dream, talent and passion within and my husband the most of all, he has done above and beyond to help me succeed from day one he has believed in me more than I have had, he has taken care of his job, our kids and the house, all at the same time so I can bake, decorate, set up and deliver every single sweet, to a single order to dozens, day and night. My husband has got my back like no one ever has, he really has fulfilled the husband part, one hundred percent.
