Meet Maria Capps | Cosmetologist, Certified Trichologist & Alternative Hair Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Capps and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, what do you attribute your success to?
This is an easy question to answer, FAITH. My personal faith in God and thanks to him I have faith in myself and my mission. I became a stylist to find professional and financial freedom all while helping women look and feel fabulous! I fully believe that treating this business as a mission field vs. a spreadsheet with profit and loss has been the key to my success. People go thru so many trials in their lives and need a safe place to sit, have a friendly listening ear all while getting their self care needs met. I have shared many a tear, laughter, grief, fear and joy with the beautiful women that God places in my path. I do my best to serve them in the best way possible for their needs that day and as their needs change from visit to visit.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out as many cosmetologist. knowing that I love working with hair and needing to find what I was really good at. Well, that has changed many times over the years. But about 4 years ago I started to experience hair loss first hand. I had been asked for help by others many times over the years but we were trained to refer people to dermatologist or primary care. Well, what I found out when I was having my own hair loss is that both the dermatologist and primary care doctors told me to talk to my hairdresser. LOL….. So I quickly learned that there was not a lot of actual help out there. So I took it upon myself to become a certified Trichologist thru USTI. I have learned many different alternative hair care applications and made it a goal to find ways to make those suffering with hair loss feel beautiful again without having to pay an arm and a leg. I was already an extension specialist but I needed to learn more about toppers, wigs, growth serums and try to find the best and most affordable why to help those that need it the most.
I feel that my own personal experiences have given me the ability to really understand the needs of those that come to see me.
I am currently learning wig making and will always continue to educate myself of the new and old ways of hair care to make sure that I can be as knowledgeable as possible to provide the truly best hair care services for my clientele.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DFW is so diverse and culturally rich….
The stockyards is a must see, catch a concert and play some pool at Billy Bob’s, drinking and catching up while taking a little spin on the dance floor.
I would have to show them Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth and catch some laughs at the comedy club or check out the piano bar.
Visiting the Fort Worth Zoo is also truly the best when it comes to seeing so many exotic animals. The Harpy is my favorite!
The Galleria in Dallas has the very best in shopping and dining and in my personal experience the Dallas Aquarium and Perot Museum are MUST SEE to believe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my, in my 15 years in this industry the biggest support I have received is from my amazing husband. I would not be a cosmetologist today if he didn’t push me to follow my passion and stop worrying about anything else. He has stood by me from day one and been my biggest cheerleader. Every new technique, every new service or educational course I would bring up he would always 100% back me, guide me and help push me to not just learn it but be the best I could.
When I opened my first store front salon in 2022 he suffered a stroke. I wasn’t sure what our future would hold and how I would be able to take over for the both of us as he recovered. Thanks to the amazing friendships I have made with my clients we pulled thru. One client set up a gofundme…..another client set up a meal train…. the grace that my clients showed and their loyalty while I was trying to make everything work was just the biggest blessing.
Last but not least my amazing family and extended family…my momma still flies in from Arkansas quarterly to get her hair done. My sister drives up from Houston twice a year to get her hair done…..and so many others drive, buy from my online platform and just shower me with love.
Without all the support and care I wouldn’t be able to offer what I do to the community.
