Hi Malarene, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting StyleByMal was “God blessed me with gifted hands so I’m going to take advantage of it”. I remember losing my job then things slowly start going downhill. I was evicted, my children and I were sleeping in the car so I decided to be a mobile braider during my babies school hours. I was already braiding hair here and there before I lost my apartment but I wasn’t confident enough to braid full time. God has his way of teaching us things, everything happens for a reason. I now braid hair from home and I love it. I love making people happy and making them feel even more beautiful than they are.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
StyleByMal is an in home braider. I’m located in Dallas, TX. I provide natural hair styles such as braids, two-strand twists, coils..etc. Using only natural hair products. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend going to Wabi House they are known for their Ramen & izakaya-style Japanese dishes, plus sake & cocktails, are served in industrial-chic digs. They’re located at 1802 Greenville Ave #100, Dallas, TX 75206.
