We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline DeBlieux and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeline, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I would have to say that the most important lesson my business and career move has taught me is to never give up and focus on you and your business. Don’t get caught up watching other businesses. Some businesses are going to grow faster than yours, and you are going to grow faster than other businesses. It is not a race and what’s most important is that you love what you do, and you are making your customers/clients happy. Hibiscus Honey is all about being joyful and colorful; in everything we do! From the products we sell, to our packaging to customer service. Personally, I strive to be different and insert my personality in every aspect of the business. Also, never give up. You are going to have hard days, even difficult seasons; however, it’s temporary. I started my business in the middle of the pandemic; talk about crazy. I’ve learned so much; yet those two tips are the most important. Stay true to yourself and keep moving forward!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hibiscus Honey is my online boutique where you will see new arrivals weekly and we are always serving up joyful and colorful pieces! From jewels, to gifts, and home pieces, HH is your one stop shop. I’m most proud of Hibiscus Honey because I created it. I am the owner and curator. I am the buyer, I market the pieces, sell them, and packaged each order with a handwritten note.
Hibiscus Honey started in 2020 and is thriving! The shop is growing each year and I’m so proud to see where we’ve come. You hear me say ‘we’ and that’s because my husband works behind the scenes. He’s my office manager and cheerleader.
I have learned so much in these past two and half years and the first thing is to keep moving forward. Be yourself and keep trying. Sure, you’ll make mistakes, we all do; however, the difference is how will learn from that mistake, that failure, change your outlook and keep going!
What do I want the world to know about me? I’m a southern girl with a heart of aloha. You will see that in everything I do. That’s where Hibiscus Honey came from – my love for Hawaii, especially, the island of Kauai, and my southern roots. I have a think southern accent and sweet like honey – hence Hibiscus Honey. I love color and I love spreading joy. I love making people smile and I strive to that daily and especially with my customers. I want my customers and clients to feel special, know that I care, and know that I appreciate them!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, being from Shreveport – Dallas is a hop, skip, and jump away! I’ve grown up going to Dallas and love the vibe. A few of my favorite places include: the Dallas Arboretum, NorthPark Mall, lunch at Taverna, roaming Knox/Henderson, and always dining at Bazille inside Nordstrom NorthPark. Other favorite places include Neimans Downtown, The French Room, Joe Leo Tex Mex, and all the fresh seafood at Oceanaire.
We know bring our daughter to Dallas and she loves it all too! Of course, we can’t leave Dallas without a trip to Trader Joe’s!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my husband, my right hand. He encouraged me to start Hibiscus Honey and is my office manager. He is my cheerleader, my partner, and best friend. Also, to my parents, they have always encouraged me to pursue my goals and cheered me on along the way. I’m so grateful to have this trio in my corner and their unconditional love.
