We had the good fortune of connecting with Macie Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Macie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business is extremely scary and overwhelming, but it is also super exciting. My thought process behind starting my own business was to simply just, “begin”. A person who wants to start a business or a project can get distracted by planning all the small details. I said, just begin. Start your business. Create what you would like and run with it. The small details will work out along the way. It has not been easy, but putting my passion and dedication into my business goals, has truly helped me understand that this is one of the best decisions I have ever made! Putting your business out there is the best way to start your own business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Expressing my art through photography is my favorite thing to do. Photography is all about capturing life moments for your clients. Through this past year, it has been hard for me to find my niche. I wanted to be successful, but this made me suffer from imposter syndrome. Instead, I grew into my style without focusing on what other photographers are doing around me. I like to focus on candid and natural poses. My photography likes to enhance the raw emotions of clients so they can always remember and cherish their photos. As well as, a golden and creamy editing style. I am proud of creating a style and environment that I love and others can love with me. It has been hard and overwhelming, but the encouragement never stops. I have to remind myself to be patient and keep pushing. Through passion and hard work, the negative moments are overpowered by the good. Ask for help and keep moving forward!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are two spots we are going to if you are hanging out with me for a long weekend! First Dallas, we are going to shoot the best headshots ever at The TX Studio on Polk Street. This is my favorite natural light studio, ever! There are so many awesome backdrops and plant props to choose from. We would also enjoy a nice, chilled Topa Chico after our shoot. Next, we would hit up Denton Square. Before the shoot, we would walk around the area to shop for vinyl at Recycled Books, Records, & CDs. Once we finish up there, we will grab iced matcha at the West Oak Coffee Bar. To finish up the afternoon, we would shoot at the Oak Street Studio.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am with my business if it were not for the endless support from others! My family is my main support system. They modeled for me before I even truly understood how to work my camera. As well as my lovely life partner who always encourages me through all the ups and downs with running a business. Last but not least, all my amazing Texas photographers. This community has been growing these past few months and it is incredible. Having support from other photographers, who can understand exactly what you are going through, is very empowering. I give my love and thanks to all of the amazing people who have been there for me throughout the year.
