We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyrical Negus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyrical, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by life, creation. I am inspired by love, positive vibration.
I am inspiration, as I am inspired.
I am inspired, so a higher frequency is required…..
to resonate within this bandwidth of high consciousness.
I am inspired by the GOD in myself.
My inspiration inspires creativity.
As I am inspired by Formless Substance, relatively.
Nevertheless, everything inspires me.
Regardless of good or bad, perspective is key.
I aspire to be great, so it’s always a positive approach for me.
I am inspired by the revolutionist Marcus Garvey.
I am inspired by the leadership my heroes display.
It is why my art is delivered in this way.
From Fela Kuti, to the friends I grew with.
I am most inspired by my life experiences, truly.
My greatest inspiration is my son, Ameer.
I am inspired by my mother, her teachings are why I am here.

LYRICAL NEGUS

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Reggae / Dancehall artist. However, with my versatility, captivating styles, and enigmatic cadence, I am able to fuse my native sound with other cultures to produce a mixture of experiences that appeal beyond a specific genre. I believe it’s that and my magnetic energy are what mostly separates me from others.

It definitely has not been a smooth road to get where I’m at today. However, I’ve learnt to accept the rocky terrains and focus more on learning how to navigate these obstacles even before they present themselves. I have navigated many of these challenges by working smartly and not too hard.

I specialize in recording and performing music, songwriting, and poetry. I have collaborated with a multitude of producers, engineers, and other artists across different cultures. I love music!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m currently in Jamaica. For a week long trip, the best spots to check out would be Bravo Ital Restaurant, Ribbiz Ultra Lounge, Devon House, Hope Gardens, Bob Marley Museum, Petter Tosh Museum, and everywhere in Portland.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to Enygma, Revosa, Jeff Chang, Jah Fambily, MsV, and Jamaica Mi Hungry.
