We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo Cantera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorenzo, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I have made is to invest all that I had to start my business and not knowing how to run a business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a Masonry company. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I do my work not just for the money but because I enjoy building peoples dream homes. I always try to do my best in any small or large project. I am where I am today because of my hard work and dedication to it. It was hard at the beginning I started in this work industry not knowing anything about it. When I was sixteen years old I started at the bottom as a helper picking up trash and cleaning, not to long after that I learned how to set up the scaffolding, make the mortar and after that I started laying the brick and stone until I would be left alone with a few guys under my wing. Once I knew every aspect of being a Mason I started my dream of having my own company and not working as subcontractor but working directly with the big companies as a contractor. I now work with several big companies directly. I want everyone to know that with dedication and hard work you can do anything you set your mind to.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Myrna Cantera for always encouraging me to keep going and being my side all the time and taking care of the office side, keeping all the paperwork in order. My brother Ismael Cantera for helping me with the labor during sunny and rainy days always showing up to get the work done.
