We had the good fortune of connecting with Lk Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lk, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I set up my brand Blondilox around 2015 in the UK (where I’m from) after suffering with an eating disorder, I knew I always wanted to start my own business and my passion for health and wellness as well as being on the road to recovery inspired my business. During my recovery I was eating porridge daily and my business idea popped into my head; Blondilox. I saw that there was a market for porridge and I knew that I could put my own spin on it. I created the brand and launched it online as a ‘create your own’ concept with different superfood blends and my marketing plan was to host pop-up events and collaboration with brands such as Lululemon. Then a rather big life event happened for me and changed my direction from the UK to the US when I met my husband here in Dallas on a 24 hour stopover! Blondilox took a back seat and I got a role at a Digital Ad Agency working as a content strategist for various brands and start-ups where I did everything from social media to marketing strategy! Then with everything crazy in 2020 I was one of many people who got laid off and I just knew it was time for Blondilox to come back! So with my passion for wellness, nutrition and all things beauty I have enrolled at Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute to get my esthetician licence to become a skincare specialist! I will graduate this summer and I’m so excited for this new chapter and future of Blondilox!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So I am currently enrolled at Aveda to get my esthetician license, which means I will be able to provide services focused on and around skincare. The area I will specialize in is still yet to be defined as I start this new journey for my brand Blondilox, I’m really excited about finding my niche within the industry! I am super passionate about how the skin is affected by gut health which includes things like nutrition stress, sleep, and also the effects of hormonal issues on the skin! I have seen the personal change on my skin through everything I’ve been faced with, particularly during my recovery and my passion for nutrition in that process which is why I have embarked on this as a career. Skincare is so important, it gives you confidence and confidence is everything! Just like I felt when I set up Blondilox, the skincare industry is huge and I know I can add my own spin to it! I want the world to know that Blondilox is about daring to be different and feeling fabulous, it is also my personal journey to recovery and I hope it helps to both inspire and transform many people along the way!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok, let’s go for a weekend here in Dallas! I’m going to suggest an itinerary in a post-covid world so here we go… Day one let’s start with coffee; Cultivar coffee is so great and they have various locations across Dallas. Next up is brunch, I would suggest going to HG Supply for some great food and mimosas then bar hop around Greenville Avenue. After that grab an uber and head over to Deep Ellum for music, drinks, and great nightlife! After too many cocktails you have to try Serious Pizza, be prepared to wait in line but I promise it’s worth it, I always go for the ‘make your own’ vegan pizza, it’s delicious! Day two, head over to Bishop Arts District and start the day with coffee from Wild Detective or Hola (both are great I can’t pick), then a spot of breakfast at my favorite healthy cafe; Tribal! After that enjoy wandering around checking out the great local shops such as; All Good Things (one of my best friends, Kristin is the owner), Beatnik for great clothes, and DIRT for the funkiest flowers in town! Don’t forget to check out all the street art around the neighborhood, then I suggest ending the day with dinner at Zen Sushi; they have great sushi for vegans too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and family are for sure my biggest supporters and champions, I am very lucky and would not be here without them! I want to give a shout-out to Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute in Dallas where I am currently at school to get my esthetician license; The company’s mission is so inspiring, as are the educators there! I would also love to shout out The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) which helps support individuals and families affected by eating disorders. You can find more information on them here – https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/

TEDA (Texas Eating Disorders Association) is another fantastic organization that is of course Texas based. They helps raise awareness through education and advocacy, and they provides resources and programs to help the fight against Eating Disorders.
