We had the good fortune of connecting with Lizzie Means Duplantis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lizzie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea was actually born on the noisy streets of New York City. My sister and I both lived there after college. I worked in finance and Sarah in fashion, and we forever wore our cowboy boots, which we brought with us when we moved from Texas to the city. Strangers were constantly stopping us to ask us where we’d purchased our boots, and after years of telling folks they were custom-made using our own ideas and designs, we realized there was something there. Miron Crosby was born.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Please tell us more about your art. Our collection is deeply rooted in juxtaposition. We draw inspiration from the latest season’s catwalk and from centuries-old art and architecture. We make high-fashion, contemporary boots using old-school artisanal methods. We’re the most proud of the magic that happens somewhere in the middle: looking back and forward at the same time. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. We are the most excited about our clients. Cowboy boots are generational, so they are truly a gift that can last forever, and working with our incredible clientele is what keeps us going. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. I remind myself to keep at it, there is a solution somewhere that may not be obvious. There is a way to find an answer – you just have to be creative. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? We stand for delivering a great product and we stand for hospitality. We want to give people heirloom quality products they will treasure for generations to come. We love celebrating life and the sentimentality of various milestones, and to us, our boots are a vehicle for doing that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
• Shopping in Highland Park Village, especially at our treehouse studio there, is a must, then scoot over to West Lovers and see our friends at Ellis Hill, Cabana and Canary • Grab a skinny spicy margarita on the patio at the Mansion on Turtle Creek • Get lost for an afternoon at the Nasher Sculpture Garden • When we can go to concerts again, I love the round tables at the front of the Kessler Theater • Oysters and very dirty vodka martinis at our neighborhood favorite spot, Hudson House • Everything is bigger in Dallas, including football – you have to attend a cowboys game while you’re here • A long walk in Caruth Park with our kiddos to see the ducks, Mustang Donuts in hand, is my favorite Saturday morning activity
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The answer to this question may be a funny one, but I want to especially thank my husband, Seth, and my unofficial life coach, Mark Cuban.
