We had the good fortune of connecting with Liza Curran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liza, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Do it scared. Everyone feels like a baby deer standing on shaky legs when they first start out, but when you look back on where you started and where you are it’s extremely rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
By day I’m an auditor in public accounting specializing in non profits. Getting to where I am today required countless hours studying and copious amounts of coffee. If I’ve learned anything in my pursuit of my professional career, it’s that successful people ask for help. I had tutors in every subject practically, visited my professors’ office hours, and worked twice as hard. Exercising that work ethic will take you farther than you realize.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We actually have a segment of this on Cortado Culture. Emi Pulse came up with the concept of CC in the City for this exact purpose!

It depends what they’re looking for. I would first take them to visit the Stockyards in Fort Worth to see them herd the longhorns, and snag some coffee on Magnolia. After a stroll in Sundance Square, I’d bring them back to Dallas and we’d grab dinner at Beverly’s. Then it’s off to an incredibly cool speakeasy in Downtown Dallas that resides in the Sova hotel off Commerce. I won’t tell you the name or how to get in… that’s for y’all to find out.

Brunch the next morning? Well, so we want somewhere with great atmosphere or a Dallas staple? It’s a toss up between Chelsea’s Corner and Oasis cafe. After that, the La La Land in Lower Greenville is a must. Walk off brunch and spend time window shopping and enjoying the pretty day. Maybe pop on Katy Trail for a stroll before they have to head out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here and writing this if it wasn’t for Meredith Foster. Cortado Culture was her amazing idea, and I’m thankful to have been included in the founding of CC and learn aspects of coffee and social media marketing that I’d never would have experienced otherwise. She always says, “if life gives you a chance, take it.”
