We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Kilmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, what do you want people to remember about you?
I’ve often said that the only thing that will matter once we are gone, is the story we leave behind. Stories are what makes us who we are. Our experiences, good and bad, are the intricate ingredients that form our personalities. I hope that when I’m long gone, people will remember me as a dreamer and a doer. I still believe, even at 41yrs old, that I can make a difference. I try to take my interesting life and use its many twists and turns to learn. I hope to always be able to help people through their struggles by sharing my stories and successes. We all have common ground and common goals. As a society, we have just lost focus on the things that matter. I hope people remember that I never lost faith and I really wanted a better world. Those are the things that I wish to leave in peoples hearts.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created my business over the course of many observant years in various industries. I am, quite often, a people watcher and empathetic, if I must put a label on myself. I try to take a less common approach to business. I have been a customer, an employee, a manager, and a business owner. I see no reason to neglect the perspective of any one of those when designing a business model. But with ReMix, I envisioned much more than just a business plan. I don’t want to just sell a product or a service. I plan on marketing a whole new way of life. I feel like we have all, in all societies, probably lost sight of what should matter most. With everyone focusing on the turmoil and separation in our lives, we rapidly move towards the deterioration of our planet, our values, and our hope. ReMix is my artistic expression of how every individual can re-invent our daily lives. I take the things that are almost lost, and reintegrate them into my designs. Every tiny relic in and around our homes has a story that deserves retelling. I design furniture, remodel homes, design new spaces inside and out, and I take a very custom and personal approach in doing so. I take the legacy that surrounds each customer and build those stories into a more suitable environment. ReMix is entirely dedicated to not only building better, but building a better way!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them on a site-seeing tour of our historic little town. My family has been here for generations and left quite a few architectural landmarks to enjoy. I am undoubtedly proud of my lineage. I would share the local history and my stories. We would stroll downtown and see the buildings that my great-grandfather, grandfather, and father all had a hand in bringing to life. We could catch dinner and a show at the famous Texan Theater, which my father restored only a few years back. We could see the Cotton Museum, another Kilmer renovation , and get an enlightening history lesson or two. I could spend much more than a week telling the tales of this culture rich area, but I would probably make sure we had plenty of time for my favorite adventure. I’d take my bestie to the many treasure hunting inlets I have discovered in my years here. I am passionate about nature and all the wonders it can behold. From the South Sulphur river to the open water of Lake Tawakoni, adventures are endless. I would take my best friend down every unbeaten path i could find! I appreciate history, and heritage, and certainly art. The most exquisite and breathtaking art in the world will always be the natural elements contained within it. I hope to remind everyone to slow down life long enough to enjoy the beauty of life as much as the beauty we seek within.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to make sure that my family knows how very important they are to me. My father has always been my hero. I never remember a time in my life that my Daddy wasn’t my inspiration. He has always been the smartest, most caring and sentimental man I know. Being his daughter was the one thing that kept my head up in life. I never gave up because my Daddy never gives up. My mother is the rock. She is the voice of reason and the push to survive. She is strong willed and doesn’t let anyone disrespect that. Because of her, I value self respect and never was defeated by the ways of our world. I lost my only brother in 2015, but I hope he knew how much I looked up to him and loved him. He was very successful and made all of us very proud. And, certainly not to be overlooked, my children are my inspiration. My oldest daughter is the woman I hope to one day become. My son is brilliant and creative, and most importantly, the most genuine soul you could know. My youngest daughter, since she was born into our world, has been teaching her mother about life. She is a truly special child. Unbelievably smart, talented, and quite proverbial, that one is definitely wise beyond her years!
