We had the good fortune of connecting with Litza Bodden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Litza, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Although there is not a cookie cutter way to establish a work/life balance, I am a true advocate of finding a work/life balance by allotting a certain amount of time to work and time for self-care. I set boundaries for myself when it comes to work and I make sure and set time for me to practice self-care daily. My daily self-care include simple things like setting boundaries at work, drinking water, working out, meditating/prayer, listening to music and doing other activities that make me happy. Periodically, I would go to the spa or travel for self-care as well. Self-care is important to avoiding work burnout and compassion fatigue. I am such an advocate of self-care that I have a training that I give called the Balancing Act where I educate professionals on finding that balance and creating a self-care plan.
What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my private practice is Shining Lights Counseling LLC. What makes my private practice unique is that I establish a safe environment for my clients to discuss their issues but also in that same space, I shine a light on their inner strengths so that they can use those strengths to help them overcome life’s obstacles. I believe in empowering, validating and affirming my clients so that they can overcome some of the struggles they are facing. Life can be very stressful, overwhelming and confusing, having a therapist that meets you where you are at is so important. I have over 10 years of experience in counseling; I am versed in different counseling modalities including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I have much experience with different populations and offer family, couples and individual therapy in Spanish and in the English language. I want the world to know that our Mental Health is as important as our Physical Health.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Due to the pandemic I haven’t been to much new places, I love Caribbean food my favorite spot is Jamaica Gates, live music and good vibes, Vidorra and Glorias for Latin music and food. Chocolate Secrets for chocolates, wine and jazz music. Galaxy Drive In movie, Grand Scape, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Arboretum, Klyde Warren Park when there is good weather, Reunion Tower, Edge of the Lake winery. These are a few places I could think about.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dr. Kristen Guillory has really influenced my career. She has really motivated me to build my counseling and coaching career and inspired me to start my speaking career. The first time I saw her speaking, I was so inspired and impressed by her I asked her to mentor me. That was many years ago, since then we have become great friends, I have attended many of her speaking seminars and trainings, and I have learned so many life lessons from her. She is a great inspiration and a blueprint on how to have a successful career and work/life balance.
