We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa McNiel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember that I treated them with respect and kindness.

I treasure people who are loyal, honest, kind, who do the right thing, and who make me laugh! I guess I want to be remembered as such, and will feel like a success if I did my best to see people as eternal and valued by God.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My daughter says that I taught her to see the beauty in everyone.

I’ve had a lifetime preoccupation with creative communication. I have a background in vocal music, theatre, and broadcast television. So I guess that background colors my process, but I love, I mean… absolutely LOVE making someone see themselves in a new light. Most people have insecurities, and if I help them see themselves the way people who love them see them, I’m thrilled! That’s when I feel like I’ve done my job.

I want each photoshoot to be not only a good experience, but to produce images they will be proud to show their children and grandchildren.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a photographer friend came to visit I would definitely want them to see Deep Ellum, Klyde Warren Park, and a view of the skyline at night. The Fairgrounds are super cool, and if we could see a musical there it would be all the better. I’d want them to see the Dallas Arboretum and the Bishop Arts District.

In Fort Worth, I’d take them to the Stockyards, the Fort Worth Botanical Garden and the Water Gardens. My son got married at Marty B. Leonard chapel and had the reception at the historic T&P station, and I know they’d want to get pictures at those two places. I’d love to hit Sundance Square and see a show and have dinner there.

I’d take them to the Mandalay Canal in Las Colinas, old town Grapevine, the Denton Square, the Riverwalk in Flower Mound, and some of my favorite restaurants in The Shops of Highland Village.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My husband is endlessly supportive.

My kids are proud.

My clients treat me like a friend.

Photographers in other parts of the country have encouraged me to charge my worth.

Nothing is perfect, but people make all the difference.
