Meet Lindsay Ponce | Artist & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Ponce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2018, I struggled with postpartum depression, and in an effort to process my emotions, I picked up a pack of paints from a thrift store. That was the moment my journey as an artist began. Painting quickly became a way for me to express what words couldn’t. I started with portraits of people, feeling a deep connection to each one as I painted—like Abraham Lincoln, who also battled depression.
As my talent grew, I turned my garage into an art studio. I spent countless hours painting, practicing different shapes and depths, and creating more pieces. Eventually, I started selling every original painting I created and in 2021, I took the leap into selling prints of my work. I know have a storefront and gallery in McKinney, Texas, and my art is carried in nearly 100 retail stores across the U.S. It’s been an incredible, unexpected journey, and we’re just getting started.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I use the term ‘pop portraiture’ to describe my style. I paint people that are significant for being Rebels, Founders, and Icons. Though some portraits are humourous, such as George Washington rocking a Louis Vuitton tracksuit and dripping in gold, there is significance to each detail. Each piece is packed with hidden history that tells the story of that person’s life, their struggles, and their legacy.
The most important part of my work is the month prior to painting each subject which I spend doing research. I spend more time in research than I do painting the subject and that time holds the most meaning for me. After completing each portrait, I create a key so collectors can see the meaning of each detail. It’s all about mixing bold imagery with layers of significance.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Abraham Lincoln. I became fascinated by the lesser-known parts of his life—the things Abraham Lincoln isn’t typically remembered for. His battles with depression, the crushing personal losses he endured, and how he taught himself law.
Originally, when I bought my paints, I planned to create bold, messy abstract pieces for my home. Something vibrant and expressive. But the more I learned about Lincoln, the more I started to see him not just as a historical figure, but as someone I could actually relate to. He started to feel like a friend. I had this vivid mental image of him in a tracksuit, wearing chakra-cleansing bead bracelets, flashing a peace sign. So, I painted that.
Learning to paint, especially people, was tough. I watched countless YouTube tutorials and mostly relied on trial and error. But I stuck with it. Now, I paint every single day. That first Lincoln portrait was just the beginning. Since then, I’ve researched and painted over 35 historical figures for collectors around the world.
