We had the good fortune of connecting with Lillia Whittington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lillia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been a lover of the arts. From playing piano at age 5, to sewing and creating my own clothes with my grandma from 7, I marched Drum Corps for a summer in high school, and ended up in college with garments walking red carpets at NYFW and I had the opportunity to lecture on my fashion research. So pursuing my dream of making a difference by creating fashion content was just a natural progression in my journey. Now that I have shifted to more Denton based content, I have made it my goal to artistically showcase my hometown and favorite products that are made with love in Denton. By using my platform to showcase Denton in a creative way, it has helped businesses reach a new demographic and access to new customers from Denton and beyond! Pursuing a creative career has allowed me to really explore what life in Denton has to offer. And as someone who loves travel and exploring, this is the perfect career for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Content creation and influencer marketing is such a misunderstood industry. I do quite a bit of education on what influencer marketing is for small businesses in the area. This is because when most people think of it, they think of someone snapping photos of food, selfies, or some influencer just in it for the free stuff. However, there’s such a unique industry, and profitable one, when you find the influencer that works for your brand! During quarantine, I explored creative content creation and I felt like I was allowed to try a new style of product creation that allowed products to really pop and just get creative. In the past, I have always felt as though I needed to create “in the moment” content that would showcase products, but now I find it more beneficial to really curate a photography “set” for the products I showcase for brands. This makes the photo sessions so fun and overall, way more creative. One of the things I have learned along the way though, is that the industry of content creation is always evolving. A popular content creation strategy now might not be popular in a year, or even a few months. So now I subscribe to marketing journals and photography newsletters to try and stay up to date on how the business of content creation is evolving. Plus, it helps my brand stay relevant!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When it comes to Denton, I am your girl. I’d invite you to stay at one of the beautiful airbnb’s in Denton, one of my favs is the Selah House vineyard which has a beautiful picturesque view from the back porch! If you’re staying in town on the weekend, I’d invite you to pop over to the Community market to buy local groceries to make a homemade breakfast. If it’s during the week, Seven Mile Cafe is my favorite go to with delicious drinks or food for brunch! For an afternoon on the town, the courthouse museum is always a classic. You can take a stroll through Chairy Orchard and get the best #Dentoning photos of all time! Moving into lunch time, the greenhouse cafe is great for a quick sit-down lunch on the patio with delicious options, or for more street style food, Boca 31 always is popping, and right next to Armadillo Ale House, which does tours of their facilities! For shopping, I always pop into Denton’s plant store, True Leaf Studio! Plus, on a Saturday afternoon, owner Taylor always has something up her sleeve! Mid afternoon lounging on a picnic blanket on the square is another fabulous springtime adventure that leaves you warm, and a little hungry! Finish off the day with a great meal at 940’s Kitchen and Cocktails, then walk on down to Miss Angelines for cocktails on tap and a great time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
He doesn’t show his face on my page everyday, but the worlds best Instagram husband goes to my amazing husband Fielder. From day one when I told him, in the midst of a pandemic, I want to go full-time content creator, he was on board. Has it been hard? Absolutely. But everyday he is so supportive of my business and growth, it just encourages me to be the best content creator I can be!
