We had the good fortune of connecting with Lidya Winnie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lidya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

My entrepreneurial journey began with a realization of an unmet need within the beauty and skincare industry, particularly for black women and recognizing the lack of accessible natural skincare.

By crafting natural formulations, I aimed to redefine beauty standards while honoring African culture and traditions. Drawing inspiration from my Ethiopian roots where traditional skincare practices thrive on natural resources. I wanted to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern skincare.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Konjo Beauty is about fostering self-love, embracing natural beauty, and celebrating cultural heritage. We prioritize using natural resources, showcasing the richness of our origins, and giving back to the communities from which we source our ingredients.

I want the world to know that my brand is rooted in authenticity and a connection to my heritage. I’m proud to represent a rich, beautiful culture, and giving back to the communities that have shaped me is at the core of everything we do.

Currently, I’m thrilled about our rebranding, which will further elevate our offerings and resonate with our audience on a deeper level.

My journey to this point has been anything but easy. It’s been a test of resilience and dedication to my vision. It’s about consistency, and self-belief.

One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is the importance of having a clear plan and executing that plan. I’ve also learned the importance of building meaningful relationships and networking that has helped me in my business growth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

When it comes to food in Dallas, my top recommendation of course would be Ethiopian food and some tacos, I love tacos.

For places to hangout, I’m drawn to outdoor spaces that are relaxing and I can be inspired. I love finding outdoor cafés where I can go with friends or even get some work done while soaking some fresh air. I also love going to White Rock Lake just to sit by the water and be surrounded by nature.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the individuals who have supported and inspired me throughout my entrepreneurial journey. First, to my family for their belief in my vision even during challenges.

I also want to extend gratitude to my mentors and advisors for their guidance and wisdom. Their insights have helped me navigate the complexities of starting and growing a business, shaping my decisions, and fueling my ambition.

I would like to also express my gratitude to my customers for their continued support of my brand, for all the purchases, and the invaluable feedback they provide.
