We had the good fortune of connecting with Leticia Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leticia, how do you think about risk?
I have taken a few risks in my art career, that has made a big difference in my success. A big example of those times is when I only had 700.00 in the bank. I decided to quit my job and to use the left over money to put my own solo show. Most people thought I was crazy. But I went for it! aMy show was a great success for many reasons, and great things started to happened ever since. I am glad I took them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The path to be where I am today has been very long and very difficult yet full of wonderful experiences and challenges. But it has been worth every step of the way, because I feel now I am in a place where I feel confident about who I am as an artist. I believe we are all walkers of life. We are all pursuers of answers, and there is a big possibility we all might be heading to the same destiny that at the end we will unite us all. Yes, we all come from different cultures and backgrounds, of unique exuberant colors and experiences. Yet, we all are humans, and we belong to the same beautiful and amazing world. So my search is a continuous one, especially now that we seem to be more disconnected to the spiritual and internal world. My quest is based strongly to find sense into the world through the inner world of feelings and wishes, of warmth and emotions, of fondness tenderness and to find a path to whatever is every single human is looking for. In my art, I represent that trajectory through my walkers, They are searchers of those emotions; they are travelers of the universe and the world. Through love, passion, faith, kindness, dreams and vulnerability. They are catchers of dreams; they are explorers of aspirations, searchers of unity and of freedom. Asking always who are we? Where are we going? What are we looking for? What do we want? Who do we love? My art is an encounter of the human vulnerability and a truthful hope. My walkers are travelers, they are dreamers. And the end of their path is probably the beginning of another great adventure. They are the protagonists of the compositions and they come alive in thick oil impastos. Always in a quest but never alone. In my paintings I am trying to transport you to those places of my imagination where we are often find ourselves. I want to touch your soul, open your heart, and invite you to walk with me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots of the city are the art galleries and the Contemporary Museum of Art. Also Downtown Mckinney where you will find all kinds of unique little shops and very artsy bohemian restaurants as well as high end cuisine. There is a spot for everyone in downtown McKinney. I will also visit the Stars at Frisco Texas, it is fun and lots of nice restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely Succes can not be achieved without the support around you. Yes, there are two organizations and a couple of people I want to dedicate this shoutout: Frisco Arts now Frisco Foundation for the Arts, The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, The Pieronni Family and specially my husband Frank Groenteman.
