We had the good fortune of connecting with Lesli Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lesli, what do you attribute your success to?
Being a creative and entrepreneur, it is so important to create a routine in your daily operation. I work from home and have the same routine every morning,..this sets the tone for my whole day. The most important factor behind the success of Articulation Art is also execution…you can have great ideas but if you don’t execute, you don’t continue to build a great reputation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating installations using found materials or products that are made by a client. I think it’s important to keep exploring the use of materials and creating something new from an item that has been made for a certain purpose and turn it into an art form. There have been many obstacles when exploring this style of work, its not something you can really show before creating it so it’s more of building a trusting relationship with the client. Choosing to be an artist can be a difficult path at times, but I always say to stay true to what you love and are passionate about. Alan Watts said it best “Everyone is into something” become a master at what you love and you can be paid well for it. People truly buy or hire based on the person, if you are easy to work with and execute professionally, you will have a great career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best Trip to Dallas – Dirty Chai from White Rock Coffee – The Jess Special Breakfast Tacos from Taco Deli – Run/Bike or Paddleboard at White Rock Lake – Yoga at Super Yoga Palace – Drinks and hang at Las Almas Rotas Fair Park – Mural Hunt through Dallas – Deep Ellum/Design District – Pool Bar 4th Floor at The Virgin Hotel Dallas – Brunch at Oddfellows – Live Music Bishop Arts

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me along the way and given me opportunities. I would love to give a major shout out to Scott Rohrman of 42 Real Estate. He took a chance on me and opened up a ton of doors for me when it comes to curating public art spaces and working with developers. He has been a major advocate for artists in Dallas.
