We had the good fortune of connecting with Leo Rain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leo, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Out of all of the healthy habits I’ve developed over the year, there are 3 major habits that I feel really helped me succeed.
The first habit is something I learned from the book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear called choice architecture. This is the practice of constantly building environments that are helpful to you maintaining the habits you want to build. I use this in my studio all the time to help my mind feel clear, but to also stay on track of what my goals are for the day.
The second habit is focusing on the quote that I heard from the late Nipsey Hussle; “Instead of trying to build a whole brick wall, lay a brick every day. Eventually, you’ll look up and you’ll have a brick wall.” This has helped me to gradually accomplish my goals and get to my desired levels of success.
The third and final habit has been me constantly accepting that this life is a journey. I shouldn’t get frustrated at myself for not accomplishing everything in a set amount of time. Rather, I aim to focus on loving the journey and the development towards my goal.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what makes me the most excited is the work that is coming out later this year. The team and I have a projected EP and short documentary on the way. We have been working and it’s dope to see the progress alongside the mutual passion we share.
Honestly, the road to getting where I’m at was filled with some ups and downs. It definitely wasn’t easy either. The biggest lesson I have learned to help me overcome the challenges has been to fall in love with the journey. I’m going on 2 years being a recording artist and I know I have way more to go. Loving the journey helps me to not frustrate the process of becoming the individual I want to become.
If there was anything I wanted the world to know about me, it would be to know that my life is a complete example of what Jesus can do through a broken individual.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Dallas, we would have a great time. I would definitely make sure we hit some fun spots in Dallas. We would hit Woolworth in downtown, Stock and Barrel, and La Reunion Coffee, both in Bishop Arts. We would definitely, find a good hoop session somewhere on Saturday morning to get that good competitive exercise. There’s definitely a bunch of good options in Dallas for enjoying the weekend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people I could thank for me being where I am today. I definitely want to thank God, my family, recording artist Atlas Gold, and my team. But I wouldn’t be where I am at all without the help of my good friends Josh Tauaefa and Brandon Williams.
Josh was the first person to really believe in my talent. He would constantly tell me that he could see me as an artist and really encouraged me to take that first step as an artist. If it weren’t for Brandon I would’ve never gotten my first studio, would’ve never been exposed to the industry, and would’ve never even grown as an artist and songwriter. Shoot, my last two songs, Heavenly and Cry At Night, would’ve never been written. I’m forever grateful for both of these guys for being apart of my story!
