Meet Leila McGlothen | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leila McGlothen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leila, what inspires you?
My Nana inspired me to start baking when I was twelve. I began making small treats with her, and that’s when I realized I loved baking. Also, the Kids Baking Championship inspired me after I saw kids baking at a young age, which made me think I could do it too. Trying new recipes helped me improve my baking skills.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Loola’s Treats is a business where everything is made with love. We sell brownies, cookies, cakes, and more. We are dedicated to satisfying customers’ cravings and letting them try new treats. What sets me apart from others is my love for sweets and my appreciation for a rich variety of flavors, ensuring our customers are pleased. I am most proud of how far I have come over the past two years, and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback on how much people love the treats I create. Today, I realize that taking a business course in high school helped me understand what I need to do and how to do it correctly. Another key factor in my progress is time management, as I often had to stop what I was doing to fulfill someone’s order. It wasn’t easy balancing school, homework, and baking at the same time, but I managed. One thing that helped me overcome these challenges was having my family’s support whenever I needed it. The lessons I’ve learned are not to let anyone’s words discourage you from pursuing your dreams, even if they say you can’t do it. You can achieve anything you set your mind to, as long as you believe. I want the world to know that I am a very kind person and love hearing how much you enjoy the sweets I make. I am passionate about baking, regardless of the circumstances. Baking is my passion, and my dream is to make all the sweets in the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a whole week, I would take her to the Galleria Mall, and we would eat at the Grand Lux Cafe. The mall has three levels with different kinds of stores. I would take her to Grandscape in Plano, a mixed-use complex for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Other events include touring Cowboys Stadium, Six Flags Over Texas, the Dallas Museum, and more. Places to eat include RH Rooftop, La Taqueria de Los Angeles, Thirsty Lion, and many others. There are so many things to do in my city that they couldn’t all fit into a week-long trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to the Persons family for helping me get out there and allowing me to do pop-ups on Saturdays at Burgerlicious. I’m very grateful for them. Having me at their restaurant was a big help, as it not only brought me customers but also improved my communication skills. Someone who deserves credit is God for encouraging me to pursue this business and guiding me through every step. God helped me overcome my shyness and pushed me to keep going, even when I wasn’t feeling my best.
