We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Littenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Although I am still a new parent- we have a baby girl who is almost 8 months old, I think the biggest thing that both my husband, Alan, and I have done to impact our kids is to pursue our passions as our careers. We both have backgrounds and higher education in really steady career paths, however neither of us were fulfilled in those paths so we both decided to venture out, take a risk and start businesses doing what we loved- mine as a realtor and Alan starting a home remodeling business. I think this will impact Janie and our future kids and really encourage them to follow what they’re passionate about vs. being stuck in a job that’s unfulfilling. Taking risks like starting your own business can be very scary, and doesn’t always pan out how you want, but I know that if we never took those risks, we’d still be sitting at our jobs wondering “what if”. I can’t wait to encourage our kids to pursue what they want and help them live a life they’re super passionate and excited about, because I still think about how my life could’ve been drastically impacted, for the worse, if I had stayed working a 9 to 5.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think starting a business in any industry is challenging, which is why many people either don’t try to begin with, or fail during the first year. The stats in the real estate industry are crazy- something like 90% of agents don’t renew their real estate license after the first year! You have to realize that you’re not going to have overnight success. It takes time to build your business, your brand and have people trust that you know what you’re doing. I didn’t feel established and confident in the success of my business until at least year 2 or even 3, and with any business, you always want to work hard to make sure you’re continuing to sustain and grow year after year. Growing your own business is definitely not easy. There are still days now where I get frustrated, overwhelmed, and am completely exhausted, but I also love what I do and love helping my clients win out and get them into their dream home so it continues to keep me motivated and work extremely hard on their behalf.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is tough! Fort Worth has so much to offer depending on what you’re going for so here’s what I’d spend a week doing in Fort Worth. For one, I’d tell them to come hungry. We’d go to Reata downtown for their steak enchiladas, we’d go to Heim BBQ, Melt Ice cream, get drinks on the rooftop at Tini’s. We would go see a TCU football or baseball game depending on when they were in town. If kids were coming along, we’d go to the zoo and the dream park. I’d also take them to the Stockyards, stay in the new Hotel Drover, see the cattle drive and give them the full Fort Worth experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give my mom all of the credit in the world because she truly instilled these values in me from the beginning. She pursued her passion and owned her own commercial architect and interior design firm. She has always been my biggest fan and supporter and knowing that she was successful in her career as a business owner and mom gave me the encouragement to follow her lead. I can’t wait to instill these qualities in my daughter and see where they take her!
