We had the good fortune of connecting with Lea & Linn Win and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lea & Linn, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My wife is originally from Vietnam and I am originally from Myanmar (Burma). We both came to the United States as immigrants with our parents when we were young children with nearly no possessions of our own. I believe that being children that formerly lived in third world countries, it granted us a perspective and an awareness on hardships that most people in America have never been exposed to. In addition, our parents both engrained a hard work ethic in us, as they believed that in America, if you work hard, and be honest, anything is possible. As such, my wife and I apply this credo into our everyday lives and we hope that it reflects in our business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My wife began her professional career as a Nurse in the Mother/Baby Department at UT Southwestern. At first, it was rewarding to be able to introduce new life into the world. However, when COVID hit, the mental and physical strain was over encumbering and the risk began to outweigh the reward. Especially, considering that she was pregnant with our son at the same time. She began to realize that she had to make a career change. So, in December 2020 she gave birth to our son Liam, and to the idea of becoming her own boss. That’s when we started pursuing various franchises and landed on the concept of opening a bubble tea and coffee shop called, TeaLatte Bar.

As for myself, I have an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and work for an Engineering company that interfaces with various Aerospace customers. I am responsible for designing tooling, which is utilized to manufacture aircraft from as small as an F-35 fighter jet to as large as the New Glenn rocket. Being an alumni at UTD, I can remember the days where I just needed a quiet place to study, which has driven the location and design of our TeaLatte Bar store.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When coming to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you have to schedule your travel around your stomach. Admittedly, I am a bit biased to Fort Worth since I grew up in the area. So, to start a visitors week, I would recommend visiting the West 7th area. It has a collection of great restaurants to choose from and sights to see nearby. As for food, I recommend checking out Hatsuyuki Hand Roll. They have the freshest sushi, hands-down. While in the area you can check out the cultural district, which has several venues to visit, such as the Botanical gardens, Fort Worth Zoo, and multiple museums.

Of course, the DFW area is home to the Dallas Cowboys, so you have to visit AT&T stadium. Texas Live is just across the street from the stadium and it is a great venue to catch a game; whether it be football, baseball, basketball, or just watch one of many live concerts that perform there. Also, do not miss sampling the BBQ at the Lockhart Smokehouse within Texas Live.

Lastly, head a little further East to the Richardson / North Dallas area and try some authentic Thai food at Bambu, or have some delicious grilled beef skewers at Sushi Rock.  Of course, once you’ve had your fill of delicious food, we highly recommend coming to visit our TeaLatte Bar store, to end the night with a fresh brewed-to-order milk tea.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We definitely need to Shoutout to our parents. Neither my wife, nor I would be where we are today without our parents. They left their homes, family, and belongings to give us a chance at a better life. We cannot express enough gratitude for the sacrifices they made.
