We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel that risk taking is a HUGE part of success! Not just for my life but for everyone! Life is all about choices and making decisions based on your current circumstances. Opportunities often present themselves and some times you’re left at the, “fork in the road.” You have to take that leap and choose to try something different so that you can have different results. Of course people will call you crazy because they don’t see your vision. But, it’s not their life to choose which path you should take.. it’s not meant for them to understand.

For instance, my move to Texas was a huge risk for me. I was born and raised in North Carolina and for 5 years prior to moving to Texas I KNEW I belonged here. I couldn’t explain why, especially seeing that I had never visited Texas before. I just knew that it would work out for me to come here when the time was right. And it did in 2020! It was the best decision I have ever made in my life for me and my business. Trusting that you are guided in the right direction for a better future and being aligned with the right people to connect you with opportunities that could possibly take you to the next level! Why not? Even if things don’t work out, you’ve learned a lesson and experience is the best teacher.

In business, I take risks all the time! I reach out to celebrities, businesses, organizations, etc. all the time because how else is anyone going to know about Silky Radiance if I don’t speak out about it? I’m not afraid of hearing the word, “NO!” I say this all the time… “No, means next!” In business, you’re going to hear a lot of No’s…But, you can’t let that stop you! You’re one step closer to a YES! So many amazing things can come from risk taking and you should never doubt yourself just because you think you need to “figure things out first” before taking that leap on faith! I have no regrets! I trust that if God presented me this opportunity or path to go down.. how could I lose?

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I am most proud and excited about how authentic my product line is, the products speaks for themselves and that sets me apart from others. All of the names of my products have all come from the things that I love or has influenced my life in some way. To know that I have something that no one can take away from me is a blessing! I love that I can express who I am through my business and it is my greatest creation! I’ve always been a creative person.. I do not belong boxed in or caged!

I knew Entrepreneurship was for me After working for other companies and have been treated so poorly… I wanted to make a difference in my life and I am doing just that. I am paving the way for my own life and I will not stop until I make all of my dreams my reality! Working for myself is my ultimate goal.. there is nothing that I want more! Also, When I hire my staff, I will know how to treat them.. I truly believe that if you pour into your employees and invest in them they will value you more as a person than just another Manager, Boss or CEO. No, Entrepreneurship is not easy at all and it is not for everyone and that’s okay! But, if you know what you want out of your life you will do the research and surround yourself around those that will HELP you reach your goals that you have set out for yourself. It all starts with your mindset. Sure, somedays are better than others… You may be motivated one month and then not so much the next. It’s all about your perseverance! In order to see any results in anything that you do comes with hard work! There is no easier/ quicker way when you’re building your business from scratch! You have to start from the bottom and work your way up! I’ve been in business for 5 years and Everything I’ve learned was through trial and error. I can see the goal and I just never thought that I would fail. I listen to a lot of motivational successful business owners. Everyone has a story and some may have had it worst than others but the one thing they all had in common was that they NEVER GAVE UP! You HAVE to keep going! How i’ve overcame obstacles was asking God for strength and guidance.. I know that as a black woman I am faced with challenges all the time.. I mean its Life! But, I just give myself a few days and I am back to it! It’s okay to take breaks.. Just never give up!
