We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToyia Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaToyia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a love for designing. I would create flyers, ad booklets and etc… for myself, friends or organizations I was apart of if asked. One day I had a meeting with a mentor and she was telling me she admired my work and asked me if I had a ‘Speaker One Sheet’? I said, “no ma’am”. She said you need one! When I got home that night I began to research Speaker One Sheets. I was amazed! I created me one. I reached out to a few women in business that I knew and asked them if I could create one for them at no charge. Although this is a new marketing tool in the East Texas area to some. I decided to start Toyia Thrives Enterprises. We create bio one sheets, media kits, online magazines, product catalogs, e-flyers, price sheets, logos and much more. I also encourage women to take professional photos for their brand. I cater mainly to women and girls in business. Every woman in business needs a bio one sheet or media kit. When God gives you a gift or talent….. DON’T SIT ON IT!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I enjoy creating e-flyers, bio sheets and introducing new marketing tools/ideas to people. I feel what sets me apart from others is I put a unique spin or twist on anything I create or publish. I love how graphic designers are different, but the same in so many ways. I also try to create things I don’t see in my area or I don’t see much of in general. Creating Bio sheets are my specialty. I published Texas Senior Year Magazine to showcase Texas Photographers and Texas Seniors. I’m really excited to be publishing my second digital magazine this year BAM(Beautiful Ambitious Motivated) Woman Magazine. This magazine will showcase women and girls in business from the United States and United Kingdom! So, join B A M Woman Magazine and go an adventure with us through interviews, events & podcasts.
Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak. I have tried several business adventures in the past, but with anything in life you have to be consistent. So, when I started Toyia Thrives Enterprises I reached out to a few of them, offered my services for free and asked for feedback. It hasn’t always been easy some days I wake up and ask myself are you really supposed to be doing this and then God sends something or someone to confirm that I am! I also work full time M-F, 8:00AM-5:00PM. Juggling a full time job and entrepreneurship can be hard, but I make it work. I have a non-profit organization and that has helped me build relationships along the way. Praying, writing down my thoughts and reciting affirmations help me overcome many challenges. I have learned to trust myself more and not to be scared to try new things to make your business prosper and succeed. Every bio sheet or media kit I create I put a lot of thought and I pray for that persons brand/business. I have found my niche in graphic designing, marketing, branding and I’m ready to take it to the next level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I live near Tyler we would visit the Tyler Rose Gardens and eat at Hickory Hill BBQ. Then we would make our way to the DFW area and visit the Fabrication Yard because the artwork is so amazing, Fort Worth Water Gardens because this reminds me of memories when my children were little. Lesa’s Chicken is a must! We would stay at the Le Méridien Dallas near the Galleria. We would eat at Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles(Soooo Good!) And of course do some shopping! I’ve never been to XOXO Dining Room, so we would definitely go there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my children Destini and Jaden Jordan! They are my motivators and encouragers. I have so many mentors that have encouraged and dropped many gems in my life along the way. I am so grateful for everyone God has placed in my pathway.
