We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToya Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaToya, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Driven by a profound desire to serve and assist others, my journey has been one of resilience and determination. As a teenage mother facing the challenges of single parenthood, my commitment to independently provide for my children was a testament to my unwavering determination. Gratitude fills my heart for the support of my parents, who stood by me, reinforcing the importance of familial bonds. Witnessing the unfortunate absence of such support in the lives of many women and children, the seed of a nonprofit organization was planted within me in 2008. However, the timing wasn’t right. It wasn’t until 2020, amid a global lockdown, that I found solace and direction in my spiritual journey, drawing me closer to God and prompting me to delve into the purpose that awaited me. In the stillness of those unprecedented times, I embarked on the journey of establishing my nonprofit organization. On January 21, 2021, We Empower…, Inc was officially incorporated. Our mission is to extend a helping hand to families and individuals, providing essential support such as groceries, partial rent and utility payments, and mentorship programs tailored for women. Through our endeavors, we aim to empower and uplift those in need, fostering a community where support and compassion thrive.
What should our readers know about your business?
We Empower provide a range of essential support services, addressing both immediate and long-term needs. Our current mission centers around providing stable housing for homeless families with children. We will not stop at providing housing. We plan on extending support by offering financial counseling, budgeting assistance, and promoting savings. We aspire to see families not only secure stable housing but also gain the financial stability needed to purchase their own homes. This long-term perspective sets us apart, as we are dedicated to creating sustainable changes in the lives of those we serve. Embarking on this journey has been a formidable challenge, yet the presence of exceptional mentors and a supportive family has remarkably eased the burdens. In the initial stages, encountering a reluctance among certain organization leaders to share advice, and being told I should not speak about religion, was a hurdle. However, relying on prayer and allowing God to guide me through each challenge has been instrumental. I’ve learned, in the realm of business, the strength lies in the collective effort and collaboration of a supportive community. I would like the world to know that We Empower is unwaveringly committed to continually enhancing and uplifting our communities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my husband and my family for their support and always willing to help. We Empower often partner with Pastor Kewon Foster at Out of Love Ministries for outreach events, so a big thank you to him. Last but not least Maria Akins with Uncharted Layers for thinking of us.
