We had the good fortune of connecting with Lani Rangel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lani, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One of the first things you will see when people begin promoting joint the lash/beauty industry as a whole is the “luxury, lavish lifestyle” which isn’t a reality for 85% of the people in this line of work. Most of us are regular people who had an idea and ran with it, of course remaining grateful and humble for our clients and income we do have coming in we have to end this idea that becoming a lash tech automatically equates to traveling every other month, luxury bags, and stacks of money your first year in. Being an entrepreneur is such a blessing and amazing opportunity, but it also has its days of doubt and failures. Every day is a new learning opportunity for entrepreneurs, but you must definitely have a strong heart and determination for this line of work!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Becoming a professional lash artist is something that is so fulfilling and something I genuinely love doing. Something that sets me apart from other Lash artist is that I really take the time to build a connection with each and everyone of my clients, I like to see who they are, what they do for work, And so much more information that allows us to build a relationship, not just on a client to provider level but more on a friendship level. Another thing that sets me apart is, I set out to customize my lash sets for each of my clients that will compliment their face, eye shape, and overall structure to enhance the beauty they already have. Though I tell everybody becoming friend with your clientele can sometimes get challenging when it comes to people trying to take advantage of you thinking that you are more friends versus they are still your client, this is something we always have to be aware of because at the end of the day this is a lot of our livelihood and something that we may struggle with a lot of the time standing our ground once developing long lasting relationships. One thing to remember is those who truly appreciate and value your time & work will pay full price + tip everytime! As any entrepreneur will tell you, one of the biggest challenges we face is being slow, discouragement, and so many other things. And I think that’s one of the biggest things we deal with in the beauty industry is that one week we can make $5000 and the next week, We only have two appointments. But we have to remember that this is a sliding scale, throughout the year you will have slow and busy times. But you must remain motivated and have that determination and dedication to continue on by growing your career and gaining lasting and returning clientele!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Welcome to Greenville, Texas! If you haven’t been here before, I would love to take you around and introduce you to some of the different things we have in our smaller more rural city. One of my favorite places that I would love to introduce is something we have in downtown Greenville, which is called MORE THAN A BOUTIQUE, it is a business that is completely revolved around, Jesus and the color pink. It is a boutique and café and somewhere that I think everybody should stop and try because for one, she is the absolute sweetest person ever, and her space is beautiful!! Another one of my favorite places in Greenville would have to be Texas Café for a spot that is always going to get you right! Their food is fresh and home-cooked and you are always gonna find something you would like on their menu whether it be breakfast or lunch, but keep in mind they do close at 3 PM most days.! Lastly, another one of my favorite places in Greenville would have to be the Italian Restaurant Fatto a Mano. It is absolutely delicious, handmade pizzas, pastas and all types of other Italian dishes with the cutest set up you could imagine in downtown Greenville!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to begin by thanking my family, and my husband, for always being there and supporting me whether it had been promoting my business by word-of-mouth, helping me move/build some of my lash studios, and so much more… everything y’all have done for me has helped me be able to grow this business from the ground up. Specifically, My husband, Freddy, who is always had my back and motivated me, especially on the days when I needed it most. Shout out to my mom Who taught me everything I need to know about cosmetology and also about diving directly into the cosmetology/beauty industry. Thank you for showing me and introducing me to all of your tips and techniques from building clientele, getting my own Salon suite, all of my random questions I call you about during the day and so much more. Thank you to my Nana who is always been there for me and done anything she possibly could to support my business, making sure I always have what I need to continue with my lash business, and helping put me through Texas lash licensing school. Lastly thank you to my Dad & little brother Asher for the endless support. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you all by my side. Finally I would like to shout out and say a huge thank you to DFW Lash university because without them, I would not have been able to progress my career and skills as an artist. They have opened many doors for me, including collaborations, winning scholarships, and giveaways, and constantly evolving and introducing us to new information to grow excel within our business. DFW lash university is the first place I will always recommend to anybody wanting to join the industry because they are truly there for their students and want to see everybody succeed!!
