We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I actually never had plans to start my own business as a career. My New Year’s resolution in 2022 was to try something new every month, which led me to take a cooking class. I had always wanted to learn to make macarons and walked away from the cooking class with enough knowledge to start making macarons at home. It was a long year of making mistakes, making big messes, and learning a ton about perfecting the skill of making macarons. After making them for family and friends and getting lots of feedback, I received a push from others to finally start selling them and opened The Macaron Makery in February of 2023.

What should our readers know about your business?
I created The Macaron Makery out of a love and passion for these cute, delicious pastries. Macarons require a certain level of skill to execute which is constantly being refined and perfected. One thing we are especially known for is the amount of flavor we include to make sure each tiny bite is bursting on your palate. The other thing that makes us stand out is the texture of our macarons. They have that perfect crunch from the outer shell with a soft, chewy center. Sometimes store bought or shipped macarons have a dryer consistency which allows for a longer shelf life, however, this compromises taste. We hope everyone will try our macarons to experience the difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my personal favorite Dallas morning activities is to take a walk on the Katy Trail. Not only does this give you a wonderful view of the city, but there are several places to stop along the trail to shop or eat nearby. If it is a nice day, I would stay outdoors to experience Klyde Warren Park. This is very unique since it was built over a freeway right in the heart of downtown. The park is always hosting wonderful events and food trucks. To end the day, I would make reservations for dinner at Kenny’s Woodfire Grill in Addison. If you are a foodie, you will not try anything here that you will not fall in love with. It is the perfect hot stop for amazing food and drinks while visiting Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a lot of thanks to my husband, Ryan Sheehan, for his endless support in this journey. He is constantly behind the scenes encouraging me to shoot for bigger and better things in this business and believes in me sometimes more than I do. There has never been a challenge or obstacle where he hasn’t been by my side. He even helps out with washing the endless amount of dishes, and I am forever grateful!
