We had the good fortune of connecting with Lamar Kelley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lamar, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Seattle, Washington. Ive been here in Texas since around 2002. Grew up here and starting skateboarding around DFW with a few guys in the area. Ended up taking a gnarly slam one day. I had a back injury where I had to wear a back brace for two years. That was over ten years ago now, and that is definitely what kickstarted me into what I do today. Which is music and photography.Having limited access to movement, I had to learn to explore my imagination in a different way. I had to find joy without my first love, Skateboarding.

What should our readers know about your business?
I co-own Zac’s Philly Steaks & Shakes near south Dallas located in Lancaster, TX. We’ve been open 4 years and hope to continue to serve the community. It all started from my father believing in my ability to run my own business. We talked and shared ideas for months before making our decision on things like, the name, the food, and location. We did have to jump a big hurdle which was tricky and I’m sure it was for many others as well, covid. Thanks to our amazing customers our doors stayed open and we continue doing what we do best.
I would like for people to know and this is what I’ve learned, stay focused and level headed. Things might be rough at times but those are just temporary moments which we can all overcome.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When coming to this city there’s a few things I can recommend, to eat just come to Zac’s we’ll do ya right. Trying to check out some live music? My good friend Stephen Carmona dj’s at Club Curfew in Ft. Worth on Mondays. OH! When in town, Dallas native So-So Topic has the best shows in the city. Definitely look for shows to see him live. Plan on taking some friends out to get some drinks? Three words, Tarantula Tiki Lounge. They serve amazing cocktails with a Hawaiian flare.
