We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakendra Weaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lakendra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own mental health therapy private practice has been a journey of deep reflection, passion, and strategic planning. My motivation stems from a desire to create a space where clients feel truly seen, heard, and supported in their healing journey. I have always been drawn to the idea of working independently, allowing me to shape my practice in a way that aligns with my values, therapeutic approach, and the populations I feel most called to serve.

I spent time identifying my niche, ensuring that my expertise and passion align with the needs of my ideal clients. Whether it’s trauma recovery, anxiety management, or inner child work, I wanted to offer specialized, evidence-based care that fosters true transformation. Additionally, I considered the logistics of my practice—whether to take insurance, maintain a physical office or telehealth model, and how to structure my pricing to remain accessible while ensuring financial sustainability.

The business and legal aspects required thoughtful research, from choosing the right business structure to ensuring HIPAA compliance and selecting an EHR system for seamless client management. Marketing and client acquisition were also key considerations—creating a brand, networking with referral sources, and leveraging online platforms to reach those who need my services.

Above all, I knew that starting a private practice meant prioritizing self-care and setting boundaries to prevent burnout. I wanted to create a practice that not only supports my clients’ well-being but also allows me to thrive as a therapist and entrepreneur. This journey is about building something meaningful, sustainable, and rooted in the belief that healing is possible when the right space and support are available.

What should our readers know about your business?
Lakendra Weaver, M. Ed, CSC, LPC – Mental Health Therapist, Consultant, & Practice Owner

I am a dedicated mental health therapist and proud owner of Embrace 2 Empower, PLLC, a space committed to providing compassionate, client-centered care. My practice was built with the vision of helping individuals navigate life’s challenges, heal from past wounds, and step into their fullest potential.

What sets my practice apart is my holistic and personalized approach to therapy. I believe in meeting each client where they are, integrating evidence-based techniques with a deep understanding of their unique story. Whether working through trauma, anxiety, life transitions, or inner child healing, I create a safe, supportive environment where true transformation can take place.

My Journey & Overcoming Challenges

Getting to where I am today in my business has been both rewarding and challenging. The path to private practice was not easy—I faced self-doubt, business hurdles, and the learning curve of entrepreneurship. However, my passion for mental health and my unwavering belief in the power of therapy kept me moving forward. I overcame challenges by seeking mentorship, staying committed to continued learning, and surrounding myself with a strong support system.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth comes from embracing the process, even when it feels uncertain. Building a business requires resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. I’ve learned to trust myself, set boundaries, and prioritize self-care just as I encourage my clients to do.

What I Want the World to Know

At Embrace 2 Empower, PLLC, therapy isn’t just about managing symptoms—it’s about deep healing, self-discovery, and reclaiming your power. My goal is to help people feel seen, heard, and equipped with the tools to create lasting change. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

I am incredibly proud of the work I do and excited for the future of my practice. My hope is to continue breaking the stigma around mental health and providing a space where healing and growth can flourish.

A trip to Dallas wouldn’t be complete without some relaxation at Spa Castle or World Springs! Massages anyone? Rest is essential! My friends and I enjoy a night or two or three on the town with a balance of rest and relaxation. We would end the trip at Concord Church hearing a word from the one and only Pastor Carter.
