Meet La Teisha Johnson | Licensed Esthetician/Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with La Teisha Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi La Teisha, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I am a wife and a mother of 2 sets of twins (yes, TWO SETS!). These 4 keep me busy! Work life balance has been tricky over the years but I do my best to make sure that I spend plenty of time with my family while running my business. The beauty of being self employed is the ability to arrange my schedule to where I can attend field trips or take time off for a long weekend to spend with my husband. I try to block self care days on the schedule when I can as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in business for almost 14 years. I am proud to say that my business has won several awards, most recently, Best in DFW & I pride myself on not only fantastic skincare results but excellent customer service. Integrity is very important to me as well so my clients know that they will receive honesty with realistic expectations. My business is very small but a little expansion is a possibility.
I’ve gotten where I am today by not giving my clients sales pitches. I let them know what they need and how we can achieve those results. I strive to make each client feel special and I also show them gratitude for choosing me to be their skincare provider.
Growing my business was not easy at all. There was no book given to me on how to own and operate it. Trial & error and a lot of hard work figuring out what works and what doesn’t for my particular business is how I was able to start and remain successful. Also, word of mouth can be your best marketing. The majority of my clients are referrals so growing the business became easier that way. The economy can be a challenge of its own as spa services are generally the first to be cut from one’s budget but I am overcoming that by having VIP Lists as well as offering new skincare services to my clients. Keeping abreast of what’s evolving in skincare is important so I study often.
I’ve learned to have boundaries and to enforce policies that I have in place. These things can be a double edged sword because when your business is small, there seems to be a bit of difficulty sometimes with clients/customers following policies. But policies are a necessary to ensure that the business runs smoothly and remains successful. Structure and continuity is important for a business to operate.
I love using my business as a way to to give back to the community. I offer free facials to nominated Breast Cancer Survivors every October and I also do a Christmas giveaway. Another way of giving back is donating gift bags to shelters during the holidays. I want the world to know that me and my business stand on integrity, honesty and helping others when possible. I want to be sure that you are comfortable and leave feeling better than when you’d arrived.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would absolutely book them an appointment at the Salt Retreat! It’s the best nap ever and you’ll feel like you have new lungs lol. I’d take them to Cookie Society if they have a sweet tooth and there are so many fun things to do at Grandscape so I’d take them there for entertainment.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my AMAZING husband! He is my number one cheerleader as well as my handyman if needed lol. He is always encouraging me and is so supportive of my small business.
