We had the good fortune of connecting with Kumbirai Moretta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kumbirai, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, in my 20’s I struggled with obesity. I played sports in school but I didn’t have an athletic body. So in my 20’s I was able to lose the weight and keep it off through 3 pregnancies all in my 30’s. I decided I wanted to give back the knowledge I acquired all throughout my struggles with the weight-loss journey. The name Leap Fitness was easy…I was born on a leap day lol
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal trainer, I also help coach nutrition to my clients. My clients come to me not only to lose weight but to gain strength. I specialize in weight lifting for fat loss. It was not an easy transition from being a stay at home mom for about 7 years with 3 kids. I am so thankful my husband is very supportive and so he really steps in when the kids need to be chaufered for their activities. Another challenge I experienced was during the pandemic, I lost my in-person clientele. I realized I needed to manuvere in that industry. I had no idea how to do it but what helped me is I got a mentor/coach who works with personal trainers that are looking to grow their business online. I have to say that was the best thing I ever did for my business, I realize then that everyone needs a coach, even CEO’s or business owners that have been operating for years. A coach can help guide you and freshen your perspective and also help strengthen any weak characteristics.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take her on a stroll through klyde warren park. They always have a variety of food trucks so that would be good to have a bite for lunch. My favorite breakfast place is definitely Snooze AM breakfast.
I would take a guided tour in the African American museum. We would lose ourselves in the Arts District as well, so many places to eat and also just a great people watching as well. Of course I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to take her to the Stockyards in Ft Worth, this is where you see the old Texas, I love how much character that place has.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband! He is my biggest fan, he believes in me even when I have some doubts. My sisters, they are my rocks. My friends who keep giving shout outs on Facebook groups. My kids who are really my ‘why’, I just want them to see what can happen if you follow your passion, and give back to the world you experience a different type of joy fulfillment.
