We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Zizzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’d start by saying that I wouldn’t consider myself a success quite yet. My idea of success is being at a level of comfort with the business(es) I’ve created that, if everything were taken from me tomorrow, I would still be fulfilled in what I’ve accomplished. I’m not there… yet.

That said, my brand is moving towards success quickly. I believe the single most important factor contributing to my rapid growth is the true investment that I have in my clients and my projects. So many people get wrapped up in starting a business for the wrong reasons- money, free time, a title, convenience. I truly believe that those who start a business because they have a true passion for what they do are the ones that will be the standouts in this world. Sometimes the only thing needed to differentiate your business from the competitor is the energy your client feels when they hear you speak.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My primary business is online health and fitness coaching. I provide custom meal plans and training programs to busy and unfulfilled individuals wanting to reclaim control over their health and happiness. Second to that, I have managed to make a name for myself as a professional body builder, model, and social media influencer with a little over 2 million followers.

What sets me apart from the common fitness coach is that I have only been a coach for a year. Prior to this, I worked long shifts as a Civil Engineer managing large construction projects. I had to manage my health and fitness pursuits along with multi-million dollar projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. Let’s not forget about the 1.5 hour commute to and from work each day either. For twelve years of my life I lived without cable or Netflix. My routine was work, exercise, read, sleep, repeat.

This sounds like a shit life to most. And if we’re being honest here, it sounds like shit as I reflect on these times. But these times were what shaped my creative mind, routine habits, humble attitude, appreciative heart, and relentless mindset.

At 23 years old, my day started at 3:30 in the morning with a commute. Once work began at 6:00 AM I began running through the job site giving instructions to my crew of carpenters and equipment operators who had been doing their jobs longer than I’d been alive. After 10-12 hours I’d head to the gym for an hour waiting for traffic to die down. Depending on how long my shift was I would either head home to eat and read or go to Starbucks to work on my fitness business and dating app. This routine was on repeat for years.

The pride of my brand derives from my life experience. My face tattooed friends taught me about respect and loyalty. My fancy friends taught me about class and appearance. My job taught me about putting my needs before my wants. And the limited luxuries I had as a young adult lead me to studying and building a brand around improving ones quality of life, mentally and physically.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were visiting I would give him/her the full Texas experience on day one. We’d shoot some guns, eat some Texas BBQ, go to a concert, and take a tour of the town. Once we get all the tour of the town BS done, we’d be off for an adventure. I’ve never hog hunted from a helicopter before but that’s a real thing and Texas and something I wouldn’t mind trying. There’s also a place near hear that does wing walking. Apparently you get out of the seat of the plane, climb up on the top wing, strap in to a standing harness, and go for a ride. We’d definitely have to try that. I’ve only lived in Texas for a year and a half so I’m game for some more ideas if anybody has some for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My good attributed may not be plentiful- but the ones I do have are a byproduct of the environment I was raised in. I grew up around all walks of life. One of my best friends has multiple face tattoos and knows how to fight like he was trained in the womb. Another one of my good friends lived in an 8,oo square foot mansion with a male and female bathroom. I learned so much from both of these friends. So, I owe my success to the friends, family, and environment that raised me.
