We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimesha Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimesha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m a brand ambassador, influencer and brand manager. I manage artists, djs, creatives etc. I’m a publicist for small businesses, comedians, Instagram personalities and athletes.
To be completely honest, I HATED working for someone else. Corporate America was never for me. My Mom always told me, “you aren’t built to sit behind a desk.” Ever since I was a little girl. She said my destiny was much bigger. I didn’t know what that meant as a little girl, fully, until I got in high school. Being told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it never sat right with me. Now, I was always, always obedient. I literally never got in trouble growing up. But, I always knew, this isn’t for me. Basically, my main reason for starting Tickled Pink was to work for myself. Easy as that.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the owner/founder of Tickled Pink Event Planning and Public Relations Agency. We specialize in special event planning, nightlife/entertainment and sports media. Starting my brand was not easy at all! Being an entrepreneur is never easy but it’s always worth it. Every time I got knocked down, I got on my knees and asked God to help me get UP! Each lesson was/is a blessing in the end. Entrepreneurship isn’t glamorous. It looks so easy but trust me it’s not. It’s hard work! It takes a lot of grit and grind. Long, late nights and early mornings. Lonely nights. Crying into your pillow from stressing about your struggling business. People telling you to give up and just “get get you a real job.” Dealing with haters…all of that! My business is my real job! My passion is what drives me. Telling me NO fuels me. Closing a door on me motivates me! God is my sole provider. I totally depend on HIM. Not man! No one pays my bills but ME. It’s always been a me + God thing. That’s what keeps me going. Don’t get me wrong. There have been times that I thought about going back to a 9-5 and immediately I mean INSTANTLY the thought leaves my mind. I legit will break out in hives. It makes me cringe to think that after all of these years I would have to go back to answering to someone. So, when my days are long and hard I remind myself “do you want to go back to an office or keep going?” I ALWAYS keep going! I’ve been blessed to be nominated for countless awards in my city, I’ve won countless awards and been honored for my hard work. That means a lot to me! That my colleagues, peers and city recognizes the work that I’ve done. I’ve been working in the nightlife/entertainment/sports industry since I was 19 years old. It’s my calling. My destiny and my purpose. I wake up every single day ready for a new challenge. My clients are so supportive. I’m truly blessed to be my own girl boss!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie, Nikki who lives in Vegas was visiting me I would show her all of my fave hot spots! I would take her to see a comedy show at the Improv. I’m friends with lots of comedians as I book them for shows/events throughout the country. I’m always at comedy shows! It’s one of my fave things to do! We would do brunch at The Henry or Moxies. I also LOVE Common table, Snooze, Jonathon’s Oak Cliff or Ida Claire for brunch. Happy hour vibes: Stirr Addison is MY GO TO! The best experience, amazing staff & dope music! Vidorra deep elum/Addison, Moxies (my watering hole honestly) Glorias and Mi Cocina. Let’s talk about nightlife!
I book all of my celebrity clients at the following spots: Sandaga, Whiskeys Dallas, The Freeman & Harris house of heroes. Clutch, Level, Theory, Dibs, Area 111, Opera, Dec on dragon, Cafe 214, 945Dallas, Theory, Five AM theater, Concrete Cowboy, Townhouse and XoXo. Those are the hottest spots in town! Period.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mother. She is the reason I am here today and the woman I am today. I’m incredibly thankful that God saw fit to give me such amazing parents to raise me. I grew up in a loving, God fearing two parent household. My parents have always encouraged me to chase my dreams. My Mom has always pushed me to be great! She is a self made boss herself! That’s where I get it from. She’s the owner/founder of Treasured Ladies Club nonprofit 501c3. An nonprofit organization for teen girls/young women that she founded in 1999. She’s also a life coach for women and an ordained minister. A loving mother of 5, grandmother of 5 and devoted wife. She is everything that I aspire to be! I’m nothing without God and my parents. I owe my success to them. Period.
