We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Typaldos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business because I had a burning desire to introduce video into the realm of family photography. While it’s quite common to have a professional wedding video to capture the big day, I firmly believed that there are countless other joyous moments in family life that deserved to be immortalized on film. I’ve often heard parents express their desire to hold onto the memories of their children’s early years. Those fleeting moments when our kids are young are incredibly precious, and video is, without a doubt, the best way to truly capture and preserve those irreplaceable memories.
I have passion for preserving the beautiful, everyday moments that often go unnoticed. In a world where still photography reigns supreme in family portraits, I saw an opportunity to provide something different.
Family life is filled with countless heartwarming and priceless instances that deserve to be documented. Whether it’s how your child holds your face, your baby’s toes, or the laughter shared during a family outing, these are the moments that parents and families want to treasure forever.
As I embarked on this journey, I realized that I wasn’t just starting a business; I was becoming a storyteller. Through my lens, I capture the essence of love, togetherness, and growth. My mission is to provide families with a tangible connection to their past, a way to relive the emotions, and a means to share their unique stories with future generations.
In a fast-paced world, it’s all too easy to overlook the significance of capturing these fleeting moments. That’s why I’ve chosen to emphasize video as the medium of choice. It’s not just about a still photograph; it’s about the movement, the sounds, and the genuine emotions that breathe life into these moments. Video allows families not only to see but also to hear the giggles of their children, the rustle of leaves on a family hike, and the warmth in their own voices as they share stories and laughter.
My business doesn’t merely offer a service; it provides a bridge to the past and a window into the future. It helps families freeze time, even if just for a few precious minutes, and enables them to relive the beautiful tapestry of their lives. In a world that’s constantly changing, my commitment to preserving these moments is a reminder of the enduring power of love, family, and the beauty found in the everyday.
In essence, my journey is a heartfelt endeavor that seeks to celebrate the richness of family life, one frame at a time. I’m not just a business owner; I’m a memory maker, a storyteller, and a guardian of the timeless moments that define the essence of family.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main goal as a family photographer is to immerse myself in the heart of your family’s moments and capture them in their purest, most authentic form. I believe that the real beauty and joy in family life come from the genuine interactions, emotions, and connections that naturally unfold. My role is not to create these moments but to be there as an unobtrusive observer, ready to seize and preserve the magic that emanates from your family. When I pick up my camera, it’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about crafting a visual story that reflects the love, laughter, and bonds that define your unique family. I want every photograph to be a mirror reflecting back the authentic beauty of your lives as you live them. It’s not about stiff poses or forced smiles; it’s about capturing the essence of your family’s spirit, the little quirks, and the genuine expressions that make your family truly special.
Beyond just capturing moments, I am deeply passionate about using my art to tell your family’s unique story. Every family is like a beautifully woven tapestry, with each thread representing a moment, an experience, or a shared emotion. These narratives hold immense significance in shaping a family’s identity and instilling confidence in our children. When they see themselves through the lens of our shared memories, they can better understand where they come from, who they are, and where they belong in the world.
My mission is to help create a lasting legacy for your family, one that will be treasured not only in your lifetime but by future generations. When your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren look back at these photographs, they won’t just see faces frozen in time; they will see the roots of their family tree, the stories of their ancestors, and the love that has been passed down through the generations. These photographs will become a source of pride, a connection to their heritage, and a reminder of the strong bonds that tie your family together.
My work is a celebration of the beautiful chaos and genuine moments that define family life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our day would kick off at brunch. I love trying new places, so I would have to go to a spot I’ve never been before. I haven’t been to Mercat Bistro, so we would probably go there. After brunch, we would make our way to the renowned Arts District. Our first stop would be the Nasher Sculpture Center, I almost got my major in sculpture and it’s probably my favorite art medium to take in. Next, we’d take a leisurely walk through Klyde Warren Park. We might stop by one of the inviting food trucks stationed there to grab a a coffee. The artistic journey would continue as we entered the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA). I love to take inspiration from other art forms and incorporate them into my photography work. To unwind after a day of art and exploration, we’d head to the serene White Rock Lake. After watching the sunset at Winfrey Point, we’d conclude our day with a memorable dinner at Meridian in the Village, my favorite restaurant in Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for my husband, Dan Typaldos. His unwavering support, encouragement, and unwavering belief in my abilities have played an integral role in my journey, both personally and professionally. Dan has been my rock and my sounding board from the very beginning. When I first embarked on my entrepreneurial venture, I had moments of doubt and uncertainty, as many do when venturing into the unknown. It was during these times that Dan stepped in with his words of wisdom and encouragement. He reminded me of my passion, my talents, and the unique perspective I brought to my work.
His belief in my abilities often surpassed my own, and he consistently encouraged me to have confidence in my craft. Dan saw the potential in what I was doing and knew that my dedication and creativity would lead to success. His unwavering support became the backbone of my journey, providing me with the strength and reassurance I needed to keep moving forward, even when faced with challenges.
Beyond his words, Dan’s actions spoke volumes about his commitment to my success. He is always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was taking over the household duties while I go on a photoshoot, stopping what he’s doing to offer constructive feedback on my photos and video before I send it to a client, or simply being a source of emotional support during the times I’ve felt vulnerable or unappreciated. When you are creating something so personal, it’s hard not to take things personally and he helps give me an unattached perspective..
I truly don’t think I would have ever started on this journey or made it this far without his support.
