We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Cobb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own small business began while walking alongside my mom after she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Although my secondhand observations are far different from someone personally going through this battle, I still am able to experience a glimpse of the hardship and pain. I witnessed what it is like for a woman to lose her hair. I became more aware of things I previously took for granted: putting a bobby pin in, curling my hair, or even brushing a hair knot out. Thus, the idea for this clip collection business started.

My hair claw clip collection business started with the engraving on the clips of, “thankful i can” (“thankful i can” clip back my hair as I wanted my clips to serve as a reminder to be thankful you have hair to clip back as I have seen some of the many pains of cancer, including cancer/chemo taking away one’s hair, even from my own mom due to breast cancer) with a portion of the clip profit going toward cancer research!  I want my clips to be reminders to pray for our family and friends going through battles against cancer and to be thankful we have hair to put up or pull back with a clip. I wanted to have something that could serve as a reminder each time you see or use it to be grateful for your hair/health and pray for those who are facing life and death situations. .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Apart from KiCarCo, I am full time working at EY on a Financial Services Assurance team in New York City. I attended Texas A&M to obtain my Masters in Finance and BBA in Accounting. I then took the CPA exams to become qualified to become a CPA. I am grateful for the schooling I received to prepare me for my career in NY. I am so blessed to have had such impactful professors from high school and college that took the time to know me and help me flourish (especially after always bombarding them with tons of questions haha!). I know how fortunate I am to say I was able to even go to school as this is what allowed me to learn and transform my career. I have participated in several oversea mission trips, and always think about just how blessed in America we are to have the schooling and opportunities we do. It is something growing up we can easily just take for granted or grumble about after a late night studying.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if we were in NYC where I moved recently to for a little while, this would be a very different itinerary, hahah!

However, if I had my NYC friends come for a trip to my home in Dallas, I would start the day with a fun workout (lot of great Dallas options like Solidcore, heated Pilates, or a walk at one of the outdoor trails)! A fun brunch spot would be next (like in Highland Park Village, could incorporate some NYC with Sadelle’s). Next, I would love to do some shopping around the village area there or other fun areas like Bishop Arts/Knox/Legacy West. If we were really ready to go full western, I would make the drive out to Fort Worth to see the stockyards & go by the Drover hotel. Driving back I would make sure for them to see the beautiful Dallas skyline!!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business, KiCarCo, came about because I was inspired by my mom who motivates me daily to live each day to the fullest, pray for others constantly, and to make a change in the world in any way I can. I knew I wanted to try to combat the negative situation we faced with a positive change and outlook. No matter how big or small, I did not want to just sit still when I could do something to help all who are fighting through this cancer battle. A portion of all clip profits goes toward cancer research programs & foundations.

Along with mom, I have had family members and friends walk alongside me with love and support for my business and for just life trials and triumphs. I am eternally grateful to the Lord for all His abundant blessings.
