We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a stay at home mom, I wanted something to do where I could be at home with my boys and make a profitable income. I love to paint and host markets. It is a way to help small businesses and also have a platform to sell my artwork.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been an artist for twenty years now and I am just now coming into my own. To find your own style is a lengthy process that takes years to master and I am still working on that everyday. I paint what I love. Unique one of a kind pieces that speak to people. I love pieces that make people smile, laugh and think. There are times where every artist wants to throw in the towel. But if you stick to it it really shows in your work. That is the reason I not only make my art but host markets that showcase other hardworking artisans. I love encouraging others in there creative endeavors. Everyone has an artistic bone you just have to find what you love and keep working at it. Art is a compulsion of mine. It’s a love hate relationship to create something you love. There are a lot of items you just scrap or paint over but when it finally happens and you create something you love it is all worth it. I’m a mother an artist and a market host. It takes a lot of work and sleepless nights but in the end I hop people saw me as a hard working, driven woman who made her dreams and accomplishments come true.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denton Texas. There is everything from food, shops, markets, festivals and they really showcase local talent and artist. It’s a community built on a love for local arts and small businesses.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout-out goes to all of the small business vendors who work so hard to bring their products to the community. Being your own boss, never clocking out and balancing family and business. It is literally a 24/7 job and a labor of love.
