Hi Kenya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My name is Kenya Jasso , I make custom strawberries and also make desserts for people to buy I enjoy making this kind of stuff it really brings joy to me when I do it because it’s something that I love . It all started in 2020 when COVID was around I was scared to go for it and put money in but I decided to take the risk I started off with making funnel cakes it just took a post on my story for Instagram and people were texting me that they wanted to place an order I would go out and deliver everyday I would have to make around 20 deliveries in a day , waking up at 6am every day to deliver funnel cakes people loved the taste of them after I saw how much people were buying of me I decided to give it a shot with many more desserts and open my Instagram page for just desserts. After funnel cakes, brownies and fried Oreos I decided to focus on making strawberries dipped in chocolate and practice a lot I started receiving many orders too and good reviews and till this day I still do now I’m planning on opening my shop for desserts and flowers

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I keep on creating more ideas not only for my cooking business but also my custom clothing business “Jessamin’s Shop” that it’s my second business that I decided to go for since people were also buying a lot and still are. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to who Iam today and my small business also to grow , it was not easy because there’s a lot of challenges sometimes things don’t come out the way that you want so you have to get up on your feet more than 100 times and try try try until you reach those goals and over come those obstacles . There’s many stuff that I have learned through out the day for example how to manage your money on a small business and how to understand customers , I want people to know that if you want something go and get it go chase it because it’s worth it and at the end of the day it’s for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was to come to the area for a visit I would definitely take them to downtown Dallas because it has interesting museums and if it was for drinks I’ll say bishop arts because it has beautiful places .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person that deserves credit for my small business has to be my parents because they’ve been with me throughout this journey since I started and they have also taken the risk with money. My parents have supported me in every decision I take for my small business , they also try to give me ideas as what should I add to my menu.
